A good jab was always capable of troubling Shane. Floyd used his jab often in the lighter weights.

Floyd for the win. It's hard to argue against him because he's been dominating from then until now. Unfortunately he didn't fight a younger faster Shane, but you can't blame Floyd for that. He's called out Mosley years before they finally met, and Mosley didn't accept the challenge.

Shane really wasn't much better at 135 than 147, if at all.

He was simply facing weaker opposition when he was KOing everyone at LW.

He looked sensational in his win over Oscar at 147. He looked great in his next 3 bouts at 147 as well. The only fight Pre-Forrest in which he didn't look that good in at 147 was against Rivera, who made everyone except Oscar look bad. And even then, he looked no worse against him that he did at 135 against Holiday.

Mayweather was still the more skilled, intelligent, and versatile fighter. He wins a competitive decision.

Rosario and Ramirez are better than anyone Shane faced at LW.

Floyd @135 I think loses to Shane for the fact that Floyd didn't completely take on his safety first style until he went up to welterweight. Below WW he threw more punches which would leave more opportunities for Shane to connect. We all know that Shane can change or end a fight with one punch let alone a combo.

Shane doesn't have the boxing ability...and they are similar level athletes.

Everyone always says shane was a beast at 135. I made a thread previously asking which fights of his I should watch there as it was before I started watching boxing but I didnt get a single recommendation from anyone. Is this just another thing that is parroted by everyone or does someone actually have some recommendations for shane at 135?

You seem like one of the only ones to actually have watched any of shanes fights at 135. Everything else I see are generic comments

I was just thinking about this match-up. I think Shane edges it, but it's close and I see it going either way. At WW I favor Shane more because he was more physical with his strength and was more mature due to experience, but at 135 his style was a more fluid blend of technical skill and some scary offensive/defensive athleticism.

The head movement, the variety of combinations, changing the angle at the drop of a hat...I can definitely see him catching Floyd with the more eye-catching shots consistently enough to get a competitive decision, and maybe even hurting/dropping him with a potential window of opportunity for a stoppage. Floyd's own style at the weight would make it a difficult but entertaining fight.

The Golden Johnson fight was fun to watch. He absolutely destroyed his body. Same with Jesse James Leija. He gave Wilfredo Ruiz a pretty bad beating.

It's not that Shane was unimpressive or anything at 135, he was, but it wasn't like there was this noticable drop once he went to 147. In fact, in addition to Shane talking about being physically more comfortable at 147 (which I do believe given how big he was at LW and much weight he probably cut), no one at the time talked about Shane being inferior at 147. He looked sensational against Oscar (by far the best opponent he'd ever faced), Diaz, Taylor, and KOd the awkward Stone with the first clean combo he landed.

Did he suddenly slip because he moved up, or do you think it had something to do with him facing Vernon Forrest? An elite fighter with the right attributes to trouble Shane.
