At the time before Kessler lost he was a top prime undefeated SMW with pedigree. He was in his prime, undefeated in 39 fights, had won several world title fights and beaten undefeated top 10 comp as well as SMW world champs. Eubank was the same. He had a fantastic run, undefeated, had beaten SMW champs. They are just a couple of examples
My point is that US is center of boxing if i can call it that 122 lbs best fighters fight in US (Rigo,) 126 lbs best fighters fight in US(Nonito,Gonzales, Mares etc) 130 lbs best fighters fight in US(Mikey Garcia, Gamboa) 140 lbs best fighters fight in US(Danny, Lucas, Provodnikov) 147 lbs best fighters fight in US(Floyd, Bradley, JMM, Pac) 154 lbs best fighters fight in US (Floyd, Lara, Canelo, Trout etc) 160 lbs best fight in US (GGG, Sergio...) 168 lbs best fight in US (Ward) 175 lbs best fight in US (Kovalev, Hopkins, Stevens( ok Canada)) CW and HW Germany, and Wlad tried to make it in US but he just didnt appeal to masses and TV isnt crazy about him, i tune to watch every Wlad fight and in 95% of time i say to myself why the hell did i just watch this, we have waited for years to see Wlad vs Povetkin and that was one of the worst fights ever, 100 000 clinches :tired and fake as ref takes a point away from WLad late atsch dont think I;m hater Wlad is far better than Pov and would beat him anyway he just chooses to hug and lean.
Edwin Rodriguez almost fits that bill. He beat Grachev who beat Erdei and I'd bet you talked highly of him at some point.
Erdei was at the very end of his career. Not many felt Grachev won that either and that fight was at LHW, not SMW and Rodriguez hadnt beaten anyone of pedigree. Its almost like rating someone for beating K McBride because he beat Tyson. No disrespect. If Ward had of fought undefeated Bute, a boxer, mover puncher who was undefeated, had had more world title fights and beaten more top 10 opposition even if not as good as Kessler and Froch it would have been a big win for Ward in an undefeated unification match up
