What a disgrace boxnation and sky are for not getting the Chavez Martinez fight.

This is a top fight and luckily for the fans Primetime picked it up last minute.

Why the hell are people paying subscriptions when the stations involved dont get the meaningful fights ?

BoxNation have a deal with Golden Boy, of course they are going to have the Golden Boy promoted fight instead of the Martinez/Chavez Jr one.

Sky are short on dates, it's not surprise they haven't got it.

    This. :deal

    I disagree I'm afraid.

Although I have no proof and I can only go on Boxnation's previous form, I honestly think there is a good chance Boxnation would have picked the fight up at the last minute for cheap.

They probably just couldn't afford to compete with Primetimes bid.

The problem is that Boxnations budget has to stretch out to show boxing content seven days a week, Primetime can pick and choose what they show and thus have a bigger pot to play with.

Is this the best solution? No.

Do I wish that boxnation got this fight? Yes.

Am I disappointed they didn't? Yes.

However, we have to be realistic with our expectations with Boxnation.

They are a specialist channel and thus just don't have the subscriptions to bid on every big fight out there, if they did they would undoubtedly go out of business.

Given a chance to grow they will hopefully eventually be in a position where they can compete with just about anyone.

To be honest with you its Sky I'm more disappointed with, this is a really good fight, definitely one of the years biggest, they have the financial clout and they are not showing anything that weekend.

At least Boxnation are showing something, they have about ten hours of live boxing, and the cards look good.

The thread starter didn't have a decent responce to my comment, so he said it's 'not good enough'.

BoxNation have been showing Golden Boy promoted fights for the past few weeks, and will continue to do so as they have a deal with them. SO if there are two major fights on the same night, one of them is promoted by Golden Boy, the other by another promotional company, they are going to go with the Golden Boy fight because of their deal. What can't you understand???

They are supposed to be a dedicated boxing channel. I care nothing for the internal workings or deals that they have- that is their problem- sort it out !

I do not remember seeing that nonsense on their advertising campaigns.

Get the fights , at least the relevant big fights and there would be no additional PPV stations.

If a so called dedicated boxing channel cannot get the universally recognised middleweight title fight on then they are not doing their job properly.

    It's that simple.

It's really isn't simple or else they would have been able to get the Martinez fight without breaking their deal with Golden Boy. Some people.

And it's not like BoxNation are without a fight on that date, they got a world title fight, stop complaining.

As has been mentioned, it's quite possible that another channel would have got it IF IT WASN'T FOR PRIMETIME!

If people buy PPV, that gives Primetime power in the market because they are bringing in $ for Top Rank etc.

PPV can (presumably) up the sport rights value of fights making it difficult to compete. BoxNation can't bid too high if they don't expect the fight will be bringing in lots of new subscribers. BoxNation have to provide a month's worth of content in September. Primetime have the luxury of being able to just pick certain fights that they think they can make $ out of.

A thread bIgging up crime time and slaying Boxnation?? Behave, Boxnation is a revelation for boxing fans in the UK. Never before have I had live access too so many good boxing shows. Its unreasonable to expect them to get every show out there.
Sky are the biggest culprits here, they need to pull there fingers out.

Thread starter seems a bit simple, business doesn't work the way you seem to expect it to, they have budgets to adhere to, if they were to pay an over inflated price for Martinez/Chavez it would have a negative affect on their ability to pick up other shows.

Sky are at fault here, they have the budget, they have the resources, they just didn't bother. **** Sky.
