Both had tremendous power and were vulnerable to being dropped, Trinidad more so IMO. However, what makes this a mismatch is the style aspect. Hearns was a free flowing puncher who started quickly. His jab was used on a regular basis and his right was uncorked behind it. Trinidad was very rigid and measured with his approach. Going down during the first 4 rounds was a common occurence for Trinidad, against lesser quality fighters than Hearns and none of them had the same power or killer instinct. Trinidad had a weakness for taking jabs up the middle. De La Hoya, Vargas, Hopkins, and Wright all gave him problems with it.

Its a case of styles, but also one was a faster starter and the other wasn't. And the fighter who wasn't a fast starter, Trinidad, was knocked down early many times by mediocre opposition.

Hearns was stopped by Leonard, Hagler, and Barkley. Hagler and Barkley were big guys who could take his shots and dish out punishment in return. Leonard was defensively better than Trinidad and had the better handspeed. He could last rounds, albeit rounds he was losing, only to come on strong late in the fight. Trinidad would be getting picked off with Hearns's jab even worse and unlike Leonard, he wouldn't be around in the late rounds to attempt one final comeback.

Hopkins stopped Trinidad in 11, you're right. But ask yourself this: did Hopkins have the power, P4P-wise, that Hearns had?

also hearns was comfortably winning the barkley and SRL fights before getting caught. before he was able to land that lucky hail mary shot, barkley's face was already ground meat. he was on the verge of getting stopped as hearns was already ripping him with body shots, and used his face as target practice. tito is nowhere near as durable as barkley, he would'nt last a sustained attack by hearns. he also was'nt a mover like SRL to avoid getting blasted. his lack of movement was painfully apparent in the DLH fight, and was getting outboxed. hearns would have had a field day. bad style matchup for tito.

I'll never forget that fight. I was at a Detroit-area bar with a few friends. One guy watching the fight was willing to put 100 dollars on Hearns and asked if anybody wanted to take Barkley. I shouted out 'Give me Barkley' or something to that effect. The guy asked if I wanted to pay up right now or wait until after the fight. When Barkley was getting blasted with everything but the kitchen sink, I was so pissed thinking I just threw away money. My friends were laughing at me, until BAM!

    Best 100 dollars I ever made:lol:

Hearns has the tools to emulate the blueprint that B-Hop and Wright used to beat Tito. Plus more.

The main waepon is a jab. Hearns has a ramrod of a jab. You have to see a prime Ike Quartey to find somebody at 147 who had a jab that reasonably comes close. And Hearns jab is aided by his reach that is about two football fields in length.(just kidding, but very long nonetheless)

Next is a pair of balls to stand in front of Tito and try to land something that would take his attention so Tito would think twice before walking in(in other words, keep him at bay). Too many guys were so intimidated, they were beaten even before they got in the ring. Remember Joppy who moved at a fast-forward pace because he felt Tito's power? Hearns is one of the fiercest competitors in history. Even the mean Hagler was unable to intimidate him. It's no doubt that Hearns, despite his chin vulnerability, would be a "hitman" against Tito.

And lastly, how to outpunch Tito? No problem. Hearns just happens to possess one of the most feared right straghts in boxing history. And it would land much quicker than Tito's left hook.

    Hearns in 5.

With the Jab, Hearns would win. This could go to a UD. Once Tommy got hit from Tito, he migh fight like he did the first time vs SRL. He ********* SRL, and SRL was a better fighter then Tito.

The alcohol had something to do with it.

Looking back in hindsight, it was a damn good bet.

I would looooove to see this fight. If Tito can get inside Hearn's reach and keep the fight on the inside I would say Tito. If not, Hearns pecks him away under six rounds. Judging by the fights, Hearns.

Hearns KO or wide decision. Those who KO'd him paid a terrible price. Tito's chin wouldn't stand up to the slaughter.
