Hearns had a better right hand (although Pavlik's is right up there), handspeed, longer reach and better boxing ability but I believe Pavlik has the better chin, more heart and ring intelligence. Don't think this one would have gone the distance but think Hearns wins via mid-round KO in a brutal fight.

This is a nightmare matchup for Kelly Pav. He is tough as nails but I don't think his chin would hold up. Hearns could outbox or outbrawl Pavlik. If Kelly lands big early then he could stop Tommy like Barkley but I say Hearns wins 8 out of 10.

Tommy does everything better, Pavlik visits ***** street early, and stays there

He doesn't have more chin, more heart or ring intelligence.
What is it with this incredible overratedness of Pavlik?
The dude is a white guy with good power and decent skill, he isn't the second coming of Jesus.
Seriously, Hearns is a p4p GREAT, what has Pavlik done?
Beat Jermain Taylor twice? Well done, but that's all.
Hearns has gone toe to toe with Leonard twice, Duran, Hagler, TO NAME BUT THREE.

True, and for once Pavlik would not have the height advantage. I think this fight would turn into a jab/right hand competition. The only thing is, Pavlik is such a determined guy. I just have a hard time counting him out, especially if he could back Tommy up like Hagler did. But you're right, if Taylor almost knocked him out, Hearns would've most likely put him to sleep with one of those right hands.

I agree that KP has been vastly overrated, but the man does deserve respect from the boxing world. He has A LOT more to prove if he ever wants to be mentioned in the same breath as Hearns...but again, give the guy some credit. He's not just beat but knocked out some good (not great) fighters...and also, besides the Duran fight, Hearns came up short in his biggest fights.

Unless Tommy's chin betayed him he wins 120-108, or gets a late stoppage.

    way, way too premature!

remember how judah was built up pre-tszyu? and now we all see him in a much different light....

pavlik fought nobody pre-taylor so give the man time to mature more as a fighter and get some more meaningful fights before you compare him to someone who fought his entire career to get the deserved reputation he has now.

Hearns was So much more versatile than Pavlik. He had great movement that Pavlik couldn't even begin to cope with; great boxing skills; and that lethal power.

Hearns should win. I wouldn't bet on this fight in a million years though, because Hearns chin at 160 wasn't good at all. Nobody would ever say Iran Barkley had a shot in hell at beating him if the two had never fought, but look what happened there. If he could've held out just one more round vs Hagler, he would've won that fight on cuts as well.

Bottom line, when it comes to Hearns, he was winning in just about every fight he ever lost until he was stopped. Pavlik wouldn't outbox Tommy, because nobody really did. At MW, he wouldn't have to outbox him to stop him though.

So, to sum it up...Hearns would be a clear favorite. Pavlik would be too live a dog for me to bet on Tommy.

Well, I didn't think Hearns was ever in his "prime" at 160 or above, but even so I would favor Hearns at 160.

Hearns would be finally facing someone who was taller than him and have longer reach. He's at a disadvantage. Secondly he'd be facing someone with punching power greater than his. Another big disadvantage.

Hearns was chinny, Pavlik is a little bit suspect. But overall I'm more impressed with Pavliks. I reckon Pavlik wins it.

considering few people knew who kelly pavlik was prior to miranda i'd say people are putting him in with some pretty esteemed company before it's time.
