Hearns. Better boxer, similar power, better arsenal. He'd probably KO Pavlik by the mid rounds.

I don't see tommy winning this. He did not carry his power up in weight all that well. And had a weak chin. I'd say he stuns Pavlik a few times, never really hurting him, outboxes him for a few rounds, but is walked down by the bigger and much stronger Pavlik, who knocks him out in the middle rounds. Pavlik could take Tommy's punch, not true the other way around. He was only in the ring with real world class middleweights twice, getting stopped by Hagler in 3, and Barkley in 2. A serious puncher with a decent chin who is at least a middleweight beats Hearns.

I'd say Hearns wins this 9 out of 10 times. My reasoning is that Hearns had a shaky jaw, but hits much much harder than Pavlik, but Pavlik hits very hard also, so the chin point is mute to a degree. I'll say this boils down to who can land with the most frequency in the early rounds, which all point to Tommy. Taller, much bigger reach, much much faster handspeed, better footwork and the right hand straight from hell. Neither fighter can take what the other throws, but Hears is evasive when he's not gassing.

    Hearns KO3

Maybe i'm missing something, but i don't remember Tommy stopping a world class middleweight ever. He's the greater fighter of course, but head-to-head, Pavlik is just to strong and hits too hard for Hearns to take more than a few shots.

Pavlik easily......it should be noted that Hearns was an excellent WW and a decent MW.....Pavliks workrate, power, and jab would eventually get to Hearns......also note Hearns was put out by less powerful guys.....Hearns would be faster but not by a whole lot........I've noticed Pavlik is getting faster and more accurate with his punches in every fight, still don't think we've seen his best

Well, Hagler was all over Hearns and didn't give Hearns much room to box.

Hearns did have some success in the middle of round 1 boxing in the middle of the ring, circling, and landing some right hands at long range.

But Hagler cornered him and got him on the ropes. By the time Hearns got off the ropes, he was doing a dance from a right hand from Hagler.

Hearns's legs weren't the same, they were rubbery from then on.

James Shuler was a highly-ranked contender when Tommy took him out.

I think he's the only middleweight that Hearns stopped who was considered a top MW at the time.

People are overrating Hearns at MW..
He wouldnt batter the **** out of Kelly..
I'll take him in a UD vs Pavlik (8-4, 9-3)
That would be competitive but Hearns would show he is a better boxer..if he would try to slug it out, Pavlik would TKO him I think, but Hearns is intelligent, so he would prevails this..
    that's a 65-35 fight for me

Hearns was at his prime when he was at 160. Prime is determined how young a fighter is and if they can still fight at their best. The fact that he was able to win titles all the way to 175 shows that he can handle middleweight pretty well. Pavlik isn't in Hearns league.
