You beat me too it. Withe the exception of M.Spinks everyone of those
fighters could look great one week, and like poop the next.

He was the Lyle of his era.

Essentially I suppose you're right. The only difference is that Lyle lost almost exclusively to the best: Quarry, Young (twice), Ali, Foreman, and Cooney. Throw out Ball, and that's not disgraceful at all, esp. considering what great performances he gave vs. Foreman, Ali, and Quarry. Lyle beat a handful of good fighters like Shavers, Ellis, Bonavena, and Bugner. Berbick also beat a handful of good fighters: Tate, Ali, Page, and Thomas. However, Berbick lost to some less-than-credible opposition, like Mercado and ST Gordon, as well as a couple of others.

I was just about to say that it's funny that Berbick was a champion and Lyle was not, yet Lyle basically gets more respect from boxing fans and experts than Berbick does.

Of course, Berbick looked good losing to Holmes and Snipes.

Berbick beats Leon Spinks, Ocassio, Smith, Bruno, Weaver, Tillis, Dokes, Cooney and Coetzee.

He loses to Tubbs, Michael Spinks, Witherspoon and Tucker.

I must emphasize that Berbick at his best is what Im basing my predictions on. In reality he blew hot and cold and could lose to all the guys you listed if he had an off night.

I will add that 1984 Pinklon Thomas would beat the best version of Berbick. Thomas looked faded when he lost to Berbick in 86.

I think rematches with Page and Holmes would probably result in the same guy winning. If Page was like 228 lbs and used his legs he could beat Berbick though. But because he too was inconsistent Ill go with Berbick.

Which Spinks does he beat, and which does he lose to?

I think that's part of it, but I also think Berbick is downplayed because Tyson beat him and very easily, too.

I agree Lyle was overall better. Lyles prime was in the mid 70s when the division was stacked.
