Fantastic fight, technique and style. Max was a superb boxer but Tunney knew the ring like no other. I see Tunney outpointing Max in a great fight.
I might actually go with Schmeling here. Yes Tunney was a fine boxer, but Schmeling feasted on orthodoxy. While Tunney is firing his jab, Max is going to be moving it aside to counter with his right, while at the same time breaking down the body with his left. A lot of you will have seen the martial arts demonstration, where the instructor says "defend yourself against this knife in my right hand", then clobbers you with his left fist while you are guarding against the knife. That was Schmeling. He kept that lazer like right hand in your face, and you never saw what his left was doing, until it was too late. Schmeling might well have zeen something in Tunney.
