I mean lets do it BOXING... Since the talk is boxers can`t hang with MMA fighters (with there rules) Lets see how it goes, Marquis of Queensbury rules. Boxers punch vs. MMA punch... All the blah, blah blah about what Couture did to a way past his prime, blown up middleweight Toney...

    obviously tyson/holyfield

a much better perspective on the skill set of mma vs boxers was the recent tim sylvia vs. ray mercer fight

couture is a brilliant older fight, not far off from his prime (hopkins let's say). toney has no business in mma and is shot to ****. not a fair fight

tim sylvia was a 1 fight removed from the UFC heavyweight championhip near prime fighter vs a so far shot it's pathetic ray mercer and what happened? mercer destroyed him in seconds. and that was an mma fight

couture is a legend. toney is shot. a horse**** fight that i couldn't be buggered to find.

Actually if you want to do it boxing punch vs MMA punch a better choice would be a prime Mirco Crocop or the current Overeem Alistair. They are predominately kickboxers and would stand and trade with z boxer - albeit they would trade by kicking their knees until they buckled and then roundkicking the boxers in the head knocking them out cold. Still - it would be interesting for as long as it lasted. Boxers would need more than just boxing to survive against fighters seasoned in the other ranges (such as kicking or grappling) in addition to boxing.

Woah! Professional boxers will win in a boxing match against people that aren't professional boxers?

How prophetic! You, sir, are the next Nostradamus!

Boxers are already familiar with blocking/parrying, in fact there whole life revolves around not getting hit.

so avoiding or blocking kicks with K1 fighters wouldnt be very difficult for them to learn.

not like learning wrestling or ju jitsu.

Not really. learning to defend against kicks and take downs will require a boxer to change his stand-up stance or else he'll end up with a bruised up leg or get taken down.

Toney vs Couture was the worst thing that could happen for real fight fans. Its brought up the argument all over again but from a childish perspective. I'm enjoying the threads that are technical, discussing the evolution of MMA etc

MMA fighters always win in these match ups. The cage is where these fights should take place. So the boxer can match his skills against the MMA fighter.
