Prime Tyson Knocks Out Wladimir Klitschko in Round 1

Those fighters Mike beat are no where near the size and resume as Wladimir! Well Holmes has the resume, but not the size, and he was coming off a two year retirement without a warm up fight. That Holmes is better than the prime, 26-0, 244 lb ko artist Peter? No. Another thing, Peter was a very big heavyweight, a very big thudding puncher. Mike was not. Peter lost every minute of every round except the 5th and the 10th, really. Mike wasnt in his prime at 24? I dont buy that one bit. If Wladimir was able to fight Mike in '88, people would say his prime was over by '87. If Wlad was able to fight him in '87, Mike wouldnt have had a "prime", imho. If Tysons style was designed to "destroy" fighters like Wladimir, then why couldn't he ever do it? Give me the name of one good, prime boxer, 6'4, 225lbs or bigger that Mike "destroyed". Who is he?

 

Why are people bringing up Buster Douglas as a reason for Tyson losing to Wlad here?, Buster in Tokyo showed superior hand speed, and more dynamic combination punching and foot work compared to ANY version of Wlad. He used his uppercut to great effect against Tyson that night, it was perhaps his best weapon to nullify him as he was coming into range, Wlad's uppercut is virtually non-existent. Douglas also managed to string together 3/4/5 punch combinations consistently, something Wlad rarely ever does at all.

Now I'm not saying Wlad necessarily loses to Tyson, he has great physical advantages over Mike that can't be discounted, as well as a safety first, boring-but-efficient style that would give any version of Tyson issues... but comparing Douglas to Wlad, and then using it as an example of how he would beat Mike, is just asinine.

 

Was Mike moving his head that fight? Nope.

He was plodding forward eating straights.

no, I dont think it is unfair. Like you said, none of the guys Mike fought were really as good as Wlad. But he did fight some big guys, right handed guys(never dared to fight a south paw), and had trouble. Like I said, he couldnt KO Tucker, and lost several rounds. Biggs was a good win, but they do claim Biggs was a crack head. Couldnt KO the very limited Mitch Green. Got his ass handed to him by Douglas. Couldnt( legitamately) KO Ruddock and struggled. What do all these guys have in common? Decent records, good jabs and size. Now, if you want to know how I stylistically think the match up favors Wlad, go back a few pages. Also, I did predict a 11th round ko for Wlad with the fight even after 10 rounds (6-5 Wladimir, 2 knockdowns scored by Mike). Its not like Im claiming Mike has no chance in hell here. But the point of the poll was "Mike KO 1 Wladimir". To say he would do that with so much certainty is absurd to me, given that Mike never scored a KO 1 against a good, big fighter. I also realize YOU didn't say he could. Of course its possible. Lets keep the size difference, good resumes, explosive vs boring, exciting vs tactical and say "Manny Pac ko-1 Hopkins". I dont see this being much different. Of course Mike looks faster and more explosive...he is tiny in comparison to Wladimir.

 

Um yeah, he was moving his head in that fight. He was bobbing and weavin, throwing in combination with bad intentions. Buster was too big and too good for him. Better that night than Mike EVER was, imho. Wladimir is bigger and better now than Buster EVER was, imho. Mostly because Wlad hits a lot harder.

Ok. Like I have pointed out, there is really nothing in Mike's resume to suggest he could pull off such a feat. Especially considering Wlad has only been knocked down by much larger men than Mike, and that was when Wladimir was pre-Steward, and he never did take a ten count. To me that is simply mystical thinking to believe that is an actually likely outcome. Really colored by the totally busted "aura of invincibility" Mike once had for a brief period. All well, I guess we will have to agree to disagree on this one.:good

Wlad is way too big and his footwork his way too good.

If Tyson could even close the distance...which is very hard to do against Wlad...Wlad would clinch and wear on him.

Wlad would win via late TKO.

Tyson never, ever beats a skilled big.

 

Fat Buster Douglas has about a tenth of the speed as Wlad. And about a fifth of the power. And about nil of the boxing skill.
