Prime Tyson Versus Either Klitschko - who'd win?

I ****ing hate how Tyson is so over rated.

Tyson smashes Wlad but its difficult to call against Vitali.

Vitali is no mug. Tyson is no great.

 

That's possibly the biggest myth about Tyson. Plenty of guys weren't intimidated by Mike, and he still ran them over. He was incredibly effective and, from 20-23 he was a force of nature. You could jab him, hold him, try and bring in the uppercut, but he would defuse it and get his own work in.

Holyfield didn't beat Mike by not being intimidated - he was losing the fight on the cards at the halfway point. Holyfield won because he matched Tyson's ferocity and used his own skills to nullify Tyson's preferred method of fighting. It was the first time he met someone who actually WANTED to fight him on the inside.

The major issue Vitali would have is Tyson's combination punching. Vitali has good footwork, but he's not elusive. He likes to hold when opponents get close, but Tyson wouldn't let him do that. He wouldn't wait for Vitali to throw the 1-2 that's his bread and butter.

Vitali really isn't that good. The two best guys he's faced he's lost to. He has success because his opponents (and certainly since his comeback) have just stood in front of him and, bizarrely, tried to counter him. None have had the style or toughness and basic skillset needed to press him.

Tyson does.

 

Up to and including his defeat against Lennox Lewis, Tyson struugled against anyone with a decent jab who had the conviction to stay with their game plan.

So, with that in mind, I'm going to swim against the tide...

Wlad circa 2004-06 gets battered by Tyson within a few rounds but anything Wlad since his re-match against Chris Byrd certinaly has the style required to beat him as he is capable of just jabbing all night.

Vitali, however, has a tendency to forget the jab for long periods and would find himself in trouble within 8.

 

How the **** is Tyson overated ?????

 

Talk us through his 'great' resume and make a case for him being an ATG.

 

Tyson is overrated, but his resume is the equal or better of the Klit's

It's more down to his ability when in his prime, rather than his record, as to why people consider him an ATG.

 

You have a point, but to hypothesise that a man is an ATG when all he did was knock over tomato cans really gets on my nerves.

There is no doubting he had talent, but there is also no proving his greatness.

He also, in his early 20's, was taken apart by a good boxer. Something which happened more than once in his career.

 

Beating up on tomato cans is all Vitali has ever done, you can't accuse Tyson of beating bums and not mention Vitali fighting largely 8 round level fighters through most of his career

 

I agree.

Which is why I think it would be a difficult match to call.
