Prime Tyson vs prime Lewis who wins ?

I don't believe he would have been only at 50%. Frank Bruno may not have been the best heavyweight around, but he would have stopped Lewis only at 50%.

I mean how does those excuses compare with being publicly humiliated by your wife and trotted around the globe like a circus animal. Tyson was even decked in a public sparring by Page the week before he fought Douglas.
Am I saying the Douglas fight should be forgotten? No but it's clear he was no longer the fighter he was. That said, a lot of these predictions are stating what happened in 2002. Was that guy in 2002 just the same as the one who culled a generation of HW fighters in the late 80s?:think

I think every time it was Lewis fight night, the debate would drift to what chance of "heat in mouth moments" we are going to get from Lennox tonight. It was always there when he was in the ring. Guys like Briggs and the others mentioned, shouldn't have been any trouble to him but they all had their moments.

It's a close fight and one where Lennox when/if he lapsed could be getting nailed by punches faster than he had faced in his career. Lewis was capable of getting KO'd that much is certain but hey so was Mike too.

 

Frank Bruno was at his peak, when he fought Lennox Lewis. He was a legit Super-heavyweight, who could box, and bang. When Bruno fought Tyson, physically in my opinion he was not at his peak physically or technically.

Frank Bruno's performance vs Lennox lewis! was one of his best. It was arguable the first EVER match up between to modern day Super-heavyweights.

Soon after the Lennox Lewis defeat, Frank Bruno got out of control with his physical conditioning. Gained too much, inflexible Muscle Mass, and was in my opinion in his worst technical and physical shape of his career! When he eventually won his World Title vs Oliver Mccall.

 

Briggs was one of the biggest punchers of the 90's! you mentioned guys like Briggs..? Briggs was no! No Mark.

Lennox Lewis vs Shannon Briggs was no mental lapse from Lewis! he ****ing destroyed him.

Lennox Lewis faced all of the most devastating punchers of the 90's, which was arguable the second greatest heavyweight era ever.

People are banking on a mental Lapse from Lennox Lewis..?

Against Mike Tyson..? I don't think so.

Lennox Lewis was paid 5million step aside money, so Evander Holfyield could face Mike Tyson in 1996.

 

Shannon Briggs was a total No Mark compared to peak Tyson

 

Hardly. He would have given Tyson a tougher fight than most of the old men and coked up has beens. Remember, Douglas was a no mark compared to Tyson. (Please don't use the "Tyson wasn't at his peak when he fought Douglas" excuse...)

 

There was a reason why Lewis was asleep 20 minutes before the fight wrapped in blankets and it wasn't because he was confident. Maloney actually tried to call of the fight an hour before it started because Lewis was in such bad shape.

And which legitimate top 10 heavyweight did Frank Bruno ever stop? (and don't say Gerrie Coetzee! )

 

I get your point, but Lewis didn't fight that bad, he certainly looked better than 50%.

Let's also not forget that that was considered to be Bruno's best ever performance. He didn't just look good because of Lewis's lack of form, he fought with confidence, showed decent hand speed, and was a fair bit less robotic than he was in other fights.

I say Lewis was at 75%, lets be fair and give Frank the other 25%...

I never said he beat anybody of note, I just think he was big, strong and game enough to give Tyson a tougher fight than some of his other opponents. The trend back then, was for heavyweights to be smaller, faster, and generally more skilled than heavyweights of today.

Tyson never had too many problems overcoming skill, but fighters like Briggs would cause other problems.

 

Its a shame that people remember only negatives things about Tyson ... and only the positives things about Lewis.

I am absolutely convinced that a Primed Tyson would have been far FAR too much for a Primed Lewis.

Id have Tyson to beat anyone if he was in his prime and in the zone.....Yeah he might have the chance of getting beat vs any of the great HW's, but if Tyson is firing and catches anyone, then its probably game over.

Seeing as Lewis was put away far more easily twice, that's not the best of arguments.
