I got Tito by 8th round KO...Duran was no match for Tito at 147. Lightweight is another story though. Any thoughts?

I respect your opinion because I've seen some of your posts on here and I'm pretty sure you know a little something about the fight game but...Don't dismiss Tito(at welterweight) like everyone does in these classic matchup debates... Your point is taken but please check out Trinidad/Campas and Trinidad/Carr.

Trinidad stops Duran but Hagler and Barkley couldn't? Don't think so.

I see Tito kissing the canvas multiple times in this one. His balance was lackluster at times, especially early on, and the slickness of Duran's counter-punching would catch him by surprise throughout the contest. For that reason, I see a lopsided points victory, and maybe Roberto could have even pushed for a late stoppage. You stand infront of Tito and he'll eat you up, but give him angles and he'll be troubled. Duran was a master at that.

Believe me I don't Tio was an immense offensive force and a beast at ww. Bu Duran at his best was too good defensivly. He would be very able to avoid Tito's left hook and beat him. I don't think he KOs him. Tito had a very good chin at ww, he could be knocked down but not knocked out. Duran's intensity and better defense wins him the fight to win it clearly. Not wide but clearly.

I'm not even sure Trinidad could stop Duran if Duran let him have a go. Duran's chin was that good.

I think Duran's power gets under-rated at the higher weights as well. He wasn't a freight train by any means, but he never shyed away from exchanges with men from 154-160 and still got the better of most of them.

Duran of 1979 / '80 at a solid 145 pounds was too good and skilled for the bomber Trinidad of 1997 / '98 at 147 pounds..... Duran knows how to punch, box & fight; Trinidad only can punch and box off balance.... Duran schools Trinidad at 147 pounds in a time machine......

In my opinion coming to Trinidad is underrated on this forum, it's a death wish for most fighters. Duran and Robinson are about two of my main exceptions. Duran is just so dynamic and clever at using leverage and manipulating distance to be beaten by Trinidad imo. Duran would get off first and his arsenal is spectacular as we know. I'd pick Duran. Trinidad though is one of the greatest finishers of all time, if you walk in without being crafty you get your chin ripped off viciously.

I am a person who thinks Duran is overrated big time on ESB, but against Tito, this is a bad fight for Tito. If Tito could move around the ring and box then he would beat Duran easily but he cannot. I think Duran stops Tito in about 9 or 10. If a man could box and use the ring he could easily beat Duran, but if you rely on fighting him there is a risk, and Hearns knocked out Duran, but Tito does not have the right hand of Hearns or the speed, which is why Duran was stopped against Hearns. Name most great fighters who could punch like Hearns with the speed. Not many. As for Tito, Duran would weather the left hooks and come back and stop Tito.

Duran was great if a man fought him since he had that great timing and positioning to land great punches. If a man moved and didn't give Duran the style to position himself and made him plod forward, Duran became ineffective as Benitez and Leonard showed. No one at lightweight had the style or greatness to exploit this weakness in Duran.
