In order to put this in perspective you have to factor the tremendous ease with which Antonio Margarito was catching and countering Williams from the mid rounds of their fight onwards. Quintana was doing it, but slow ass lumbering Margarito was doing something similiar - and Quintana is no speed demon himself. The size, explosiveness, handspeed, precision, physical strength, and power of a prime Fernando Vargas would be a nightmare for Williams. Vargas wins, possibly by knockout.
I don't think we've seen the best Williams has to offer, but we have seen Vargas' best, and based on that, I think he beats the Paul Williams who knocked out Verno Phillips.

How can you put this into perspective when you proceed to dis Williams for how he got hit by AM, and how Quintana did against Williams...!!!??? Williams would kick Vargas's ass. PW throws too many punches, and his jab would befuddle Vargas just like Wright's did. Vargas has never beaten a prime elite fighter. If Vargas couldn't overpower you, he had nothing. Vargas was too easy to hit. PW at 154 would wear down Vargas who would probably be on roids by fight night. The roids is Vargas's only chance to beat PW.
