I had him at least 8 rounds to 4 over Mayorga in the rematch. I didn't think he struggled. I think, he was awkward in avoiding Mayorga's wildness. His trainer Ronnie Shields was giving him bogus advice. He told Forrest to forget about power punches, just to jab and then grab onto that mother ****er. Which was the wrong advice. Mayorga even then wasn't invincible, and Forrest hurt him to the body later in the fight. Shields should of had him investing more in the body early on. Forrest was dropping some bombs on Mayorga. You don't ever tell your fighter to forget the power shots, to just box and grab, that was ridiculous.

A focused Forrest would have never lost to Mayorga. He was jobbed on the cards in the rematch. Likely some politics behind that, but it is what it is.

The Forrest that was focused, who fought Mosely, beats Mayweather in my opinion. Oscar was winning rounds against Floyd by simply putting out that jab. Forrest had a better jab than Oscar, and much better feet. He would use his feet well to get in and out, and more importantly, Forrest could punch in straight lines when he had to. That jab would have been in Floyd's face all night, along with right hands and left hooks. Floyd is used to flat footed guys coming at him. The guys Floyd fought who had good feet, and could punch on the move, gave him some problems, i.e. Judah, and Corely. Watching some of Forrest's earlier fights, I am not sure how Floyd could have beaten him. He moved too well, punched too well on the move, didn't have a problem with speed, and Floyd doesn't have the power to get his respect.

Forrest would eat Thurman, Alexander, Broner, Khan, Brook etc. for lunch.

Mayorga was lesser, but many youngsters or people new to boxing associate the garbage Mayorga who fought Cotto with the Mayorga from back then. Two entirely different Mayorga's. Mayorga also had a different trainer way back then. The Mayorga that Forrest fought, would beat the **** out of Miguel Cotto. And lets not act like Forrest really lost that rematch. That was some of the worst judging, and one of the worst compu box stats of that year.

That Forrest vs Pac wouldn't even be fair. Pac would actually get his arse whooped.

That is laughable. And again people forget that Mayorga started going downhill when they switched trainers after Forrest.

    A prime Pac couldn't starch a pair of Vernon's shorts.

    Get real

A short fighter that falls-in with his hands down will get totally face-planted by Vernon Forrest.:deal:deal

Manny can't even handle Marquez:yep much less the Vernon Forrest that had Shane screaming in ring.

Pacman is worthless on the inside and doesn't have the skills to block and slip the numerous uppercuts and bodyshots Forrest would be sendind his way.

Prime Pac was a sitting duck for JMM's fight hands..Vernon would have no trouble finding him...and knocking him cold.

Manny don't have the skills to get inside and land on Forrest...he'd get caught falling- in with his hands down by his di.ck and put to sleep.

People also forget that Forrest wanted a piece of Margarito's arse after he came back, but Bob Arum wasn't having it.

    :good

People forget Mayorga was a WW...he never looked good at 154.

Forrest hated Mayorga and let skill fly out the window trying to hurt the guy.

Look how wide his stance was against Mayorga...he didnt fight anybody else like that... he was out there trying to hurt Ricardo and abandoned his game plan.

    I dont know....

Im a Big DeLaHoya fan , but im just not confident in him beating Vernon . I think it will be close and competitive and somewhat of a chess match . But I see Forrest taking over in the late rnds and outpointing him .

no he didn't.at best a draw.for all his skills, mayorga's rough and tumble unorthodox fighting had vernon cautious.the fight ended when he told vernon to punch him with his hands down.vernon did it,didn't shake him and it was fight over.

For some reason Vernon Forrest is very overrated on these boards. He had one good win at welter (against Mosley) and barely beat him in the rematch even though Shane was scared. He looked average versus an aged Vince Phillips whose best days were at 140. And he got flattened early by Ricardo Mayorga.
