Really having a hard time seeing how Joshua can get past the awkward lean back style Vitali had. Vitali's use and control of distance was almost Houdini like. Prime 2003-2004 Vitali was a tough customer to deal with because of his Height, Chin, and Lean Back style. Not to mention his Jab and that 'slapping' left hook he would throw while moving backward so you can't counter it. H2H Vitali would be a hard out for any Heavyeright in history.
He looked awkward against Heavyweight midgets. What happened when me met a real heavyweight 6'5" that knew what he was doing. Unlike Vitali, Joshua actually did what he was supposed to do against an aging heavyweight.
Touch how? "my boy" gave Vitali a L on his record and retired as undisputed Heavyweight champion of the word.
Do you really believe Joshua has the same chin as Lewis? You do realise Vitali was beating Lewis on the scorecards before the fight got stopped? And lewis went against his word on giving Vitali a rematch. He dishonoured himself through choosing cowardice instead of proving without a shadow of a doubt that he could win legitimately. Joshua to his credit has more courage than Lewis but he wouldn't be able to take Vitali's deadly temple shots.
Too early to say. Prime Vitali would probably have stopped Wlad's Joshua. But Joshua will probably get better. Ask again in about ten years time.
Winning on cuts is a legitimate way to win you ******. What, you think those cuts magically appeared on Vitali's face? Coward you said? Yet Lewis gave him a chance when he really didn't have to despite being ill prepared (he was fighting Kirk Johnson a fat bum and 10 day notice). Could it be possible that Vitali is not as good as you and many of his fans try to make him out to be......after all , Hasim Rahman capitalized on his opportunity when it presented itself, something your hero failed to do.
nothing to do with it. Joe frazier and Marvis frazier are too. they are different fighters, full stop. he kwladtfo what has 40 year old shannon briggs got to do with performing against prime joshua. none of your arguments made any sense. please pick a fresh one that does. SOON.
worst ever lewis ripped prime vits head clean off inside half the distance which has nothing to do with vitali vs joshua.
This match is difficult to access ,if Joshua jumps on vitali,he will be better able to handle it as Vitali adjusted better and had the physical size than anyone to deal with such a fighter...actually Joshua would have to fight Vitali on the outside for best chance unlike wlad who could and almost did have Joshua with that straight right .Joshua could do that with that quick jab hitting Vitali with those lead hooks straight right( the Whyte fight),,going in and out in spurts.Meanwhile Vitalis lean back and counter arm punching to could pose difficulties as well? Joshua has very fast reflexes when punches are coming at him (not sure how ANYONE thinks hes easy to land on?) and counters shots very well.could vitali outpoint joshua for 12 rnds ? Vitali made his opponents pay every time they missed alot more than wlad but could he catch joshua and a accurate punching Joshua? One thing Vitali always did was put himself out of a punching range just by doing slight steps going off line at 6'7 this was easy for him to do. I think this fight would be much more difficult than Lewis bc Joshua isnt just going to lean on him in a clinch and play center ring control....hes going to move /create distance throw fast jabs and try and follow up with combos while making you miss and countering. Vitali can throw punches at any angles and may be the smartest HW boxer in history with the way he constructs wins ,hes also hard to land punches on,but 6'6 Joshua isnt just a random opponent here. A fast quick counter puncher who can punch and reach him wasn't around when Vitali was fighting. Looking on weaknesses as well one has to think closely here, and that's what would Vitali captilize on? Hes no longer the overly big man against a faster precision puncher who will press him. Sure hes more durable than Wlad but he also doesn't have Wlad's one shot power. I think Joshua has a better chance at knocking out Vitali than Vitali winning a 12 rnd decision in which i think he would do if he won. What makes me hesitant to pick either is what will Joshua look like now after Wlad? Could anyone actually grind Joshua down for 12 if they are not able to land slower shots but with better timed ones? After the Wlad fight i would side with Joshua here ONLY bc even vitali was harder to get too...he was more stationary. Wlad used alot of jumping back and forth ..Vitali came at guys with slow steps forward with a probing jab,i could see Joshua avoiding most of the shovel/push punches from up top Vitali threw. Power/speed / is Joshua's favor...ring IQ is really what vitali would be relying on here as well as slight stamina advantage with all those rnds he went but punches take stamina out of you?...And as the Wlad fight shows there's more to it than being just smarter, the winner almost always gets his style working to gain fight control. Joshua also knows how to adjust as well. vitali is deceptively fast and always used the outer left hook to steer opponents around in direction of punches...would Joshua be limited in skills to avoid this? Im going to go on faith in this one and say Joshua in 20 fights defeats Vitali in a very rough fight that doesn't look pretty, eventually getting him out late rnds.
You do realise Vitali took the fight on short notice as well. He did not have a full camp. That's why lewis wanted no part of the rematch. As for the cuts, they were made worse through lewis targeting the cut with the thumb of his glove which I'm sure you know is illegal. Has Vitali ever been behind in any of his fights on points, has the man ever been knocked down inside a boxing ring?
he wanted no part in any match because he was 38,not "he wanted no part in the rematch of the guy he stopped inside half the distance". vitali cut because he had a porous defence at world level, simple as that. loads of fighters would never get knocked down or be behind on points if the best man they beat was 38 year retired nverman corrie sanders. its a pretty low standard at which to not be behind or knocked down at.
Gee, why did the wbc order an immediate rematch and why did Lewis offer it in the ring? And why did he run away from his promise?
You are talking as if was 78 years old, 38 is hardly ancient. George Foreman became champ at 45 years old. Lewis didn't cite that he felt too old to continue he just felt that he was entitled to retire, to avoid dealing with his problem. He knew he was 38 before he agreed the rematch clause, so why sign it if he had no intention of honouring it? I'll tell you why; he went in there thinking it would be a cake walk as Vitali was relatively unknown during those days and he was coming into the fight on short notice. Once Lewis discovered inside the ring that he was up against the real deal, he wished he was out of there, as Vitali dragged him through hell.
At this time I would favour Vitali, but who knows in a few years down the line. Joshua may not be prime yet?
