    Excellent jab
    Fantastic counter-puncher

Those are the first two things that come to mind for me. Vitali was an unbelievable counter-puncher. If I recall right, this was really evident in the Sam Peter fight, among others. I'd have to watch it again.

Here are some quotes about Vitali:

    http://www.boxinginsider.com/columns/portrait-of-a-champion-memorable-quotes-about-vitali-klitschko/

Roy Jones -- I’m impressed by the usage of (Vitali’s) jab. That’s what a tall fighter should do. That Klitschko jab is a beautiful weapon tonight."

Roy Jones -- “…beautiful short left hook. That’s what I like about Vitali staying on the outside and landing these kind of punches…I like to see Vitali box like that, Jim, outside he throws a hook/uppercut – then comes back with hooks. You don’t see big guys do stuff like that too often…That’s why I’m so impressed with him"

Emmanuel Steward -- He does have the skill. And he’s very effective in an awkward way. He has an unusual gift that I’ve watched it in training, that really sets him out greatly. Not from being big, he has a little bit of the clumsiness to a degree, he’s not as physically coordinated as his younger brother. But he has this unusual sense of feeling a punch before it comes – but can still move in an awkward direction as far as to neutralize it – and throwing a weird punch at the same time. I saw him do that in the gym so effectively. And its something that can’t be taught. You can just feel the guy getting ready to throw a left hook and he’ll throw a counterpunch, like, from underneath the left hook and move his body at angles that I haven’t seen. And that’s what makes him effective. He’s very effective with that style.”

Vitali is a gigantic guy. Big enough and powerful enough that he didn't have to really be super-skilled. But he was very skilled, and that made him even better.

When he wanted to box, he could box extremely well. And he was able to do that because of his athleticism and skill level.

This article does a nice job pointing out Vitali's jab and counter-punching skills:

Sam Peter, former WBC HW champion of the world.

Not the best fighter who ever lived, but a hard-throwing fighter who had never been stopped in a bout before Vitali shut him down.

I brought up Peter and Arreola because they are punchers. Guys who would make Vitali have to think about just walking through them. So, you got to see more of the skill come out for Vitali in those bouts because he couldn't just stand and trade blindly.

You saw what Emmanuel Steward said that I quoted.

    Really nothing else to say.

Just like he did with half his face hanging off against Lewis...Oh ****, he didn't, he was devastated it was stopped....Tried desperately for the rematch too...That should tell even a hater that he had a genuine injury with teeny weeny powder puff(but skilled admittedly) puncher Byrd...You see, that's where a clever boxer with a brain knows it would be better not to make the injury worse by continuing and live to fight another day...Boy did he live to fight another day. Arguably top 3 h2h all time

Mike Tyson beat a better Vitali in Tony Tucker.

Vitali with his hands down by his waist and zero head movement would get battered to a stoppage loss.

He simply wouldn't land a glove on Tyson.

The only two guys in their prime he fought with any semblance of a defence were Byrd and Johnson and he could barely catch either of them clean.
A few fights later Johnson lost every round ad was floored for the first time in his career by Chisora.
Then Joshua blew him out in the first round.

So Vitali can't stop those non factors but he stops one of the greatest defensive , P4P level HWs of all time ?:qmeparto::nut::nut:

This guys best win is either Arroela who was out boxed by Adamek or Peter who was out boxed by obese James Toney and Eddie Chambers

    No and no.

Obviously my two word response wasn't my entire opinion on the matter. I say "size" just so Tyson fanboys don't get all butthurt about it. Vitali has the height and reach to cause problems. He has the durability, chin, and stamina to withstand Tyson's strength. Tyson isn't going to be getting inside easily at all. Vitali isn't Mikey Spinks or ancient Holmes.

IMO Vit is too stiff and robotic, yes he's tough but prime Mike would get to him early and often. TKO on cuts, hmm that sounds familiar

Why isn't he? Who ever kept rime Mike Tyson on the outside?

Tyson's weakness was guys who had inside skills , especially uppercuts. Vitali has no uppercut and zero inside skill.
He throws straight shots from the waist upwards and Tyson was built to destroy guys like that.

Vitali is as stiff , rigid and upwards as you get. Has no head or upperbody movement whatsoever and can only throw straight 1-2s.
    Angles always beat straight lines.
He has nothing in his arsenal to hold off Tyson. Chris Byrd was able to counter him at will laying on the ropes. Tyson was one of the best at getting in and countering off the jab.
Vitali was not any better than Tony Tucker and you saw what happened there.
Show me a fight that proves Vitali would beat Tyson.?
