A clash of stiles i suppose.
If Williams had a real trainer, he would have been more than just hell for any 147/154 pounder.
No real trainer would let his fighter give up such advantages in favor of brawling.

The crazy volume he puts out is a bad match up for a defensive style like Winky or Floyd. Judges seem to favor the volume punchers. (rightly or wrongly so)

Winky Wright could possibly be the most overrated fighter of his era on this site and in general boxing circles.

Prime Winky, by a hair, but stylistically Williams was a nightmare for Winky. Volume punchers are always bad matchup for even elite low output counterpunchers, considering they are both elite. Winky had struggled with a prime Soliman when his knees worked. Just look at Calzaghe-Hopkins, Soliman-Wright, Williams-Martinez I, Castillo-Mayweather I, Baldomir-Judah.

The same Quintana whom Williams put away in the first round in the rematch ?
    It goes both ways.
Rafa Marquez broke down Vazquez and 5 moths later it was Rafa who got broken down. 1+2=3 does not apply in boxing.

I agree with your overall assessment, but I think Williams still wins. He was at a worst disadvantage than the other counter-punchers you mentioned. Winky's high guard defense was his strength in low output fights, but it was his weakness against Williams. Keeping his hands high and next to his face didn't allow him to counter. Wright couldn't extend his arms because the punches landing on his gloves would push his hands back into his face.

Williams has a lousy ring IQ if he can't overwhelm his opponents he has no plan B I could see Winky walking him down and out pointing him with ease .

I see what you're saying, Winky was never known for countering, but in his prime he liked to muscle his way in. He was also a natural righty, as a result had a very heavy jab. I think Wright was alot more active in his prime obviously and would of still struggled mightily with Williams, but difference is I think a prime Winky might of tried to push Williams back more, would of been more physical, keeping Williams off balance more, punching less in volume and also take steam off his punches, alot like Margarito was able to do when he was pushing Williams back. Pwilly was able to outwork him, but his punches had none of the power he was known for, most of his punches looked like slaps. Winky was very strong in his prime and he knew it and used his strength well to his advantage, tho not a huge puncher. It wasn't Winky's power that beat Mosley twice, but his physical strength.
