Ali loved to clinch just as much as Wlad

i seem to recall 150 clinches vs Povetkin. Can't remember Ali ever doing that.

He would dance one round and then clinch 3 rounds especially as he got older.

That he did, but the bottom line is that anywhere close to prime Ali was simply better than Wlad. He's the GOAT. Wlad isn't.

Difference is clinching was a whole part of Wladimir's style it wasn't Ali's he didnt rely on clinching in his prime like Wladimir did.

And let's be honest Wladimir had to adapt a cautious style because he has a below average chin.

Sure but he wasn't invincible and Wlad would be a hard matchup for him

He relied on it in two of his best wins when he was still close to his prime (Foreman and 2nd Frazier Fight) and Wlad didn't clinch as much in his prime he relied on it more as he slowed down and got older same with Ali.

Never said it would be easy, I just think he would prevail. Generations later, people IMO still underestimate how truly good he was, IMO because he's become so ubiquitous, residual anger over what he did in the '60s and anger over how big an ass he was to Joe Frazier who is vastly more popular around these parts.

Maybe but its hard to see how when Wlad has the tools that Ali always struggled with (A great jab and a great left hook)

One relied it on a few occasions the other relied it on it solely because he was afraid to get hit on the chin.

A clinch is a clinch and both of these guys used it a lot. And no he didn't rely on it on "a few occasions" Ali relied on it pretty heavily as his athleticism started to decline

Afraid to get hit on the chin by guys like Peter, Povetkin, Chagaev, Brewster etc all of whom hit considerably harder than Ali

Ali did not clinch "alot" in his prime so what's the point of bringing it up whilst he past his prime ? I'd assume this match up is prime for prime correct ?

One fighter relied on clinching in their prime the other didn't it's that simple.
