I can't see prime Wlad losing to any version of Rahman but then again Brewster got Wlad just like he got Golota so go figure.
I give huge credit to Vitali. Infact it's one of the main reasons why I rank him over Wlad. No version of Wlad could do what Vitali done that night.
You should have collected there. Lewis won the first fight with Holy more convincingly than he won the second.
True, had the second 115-113 Lewis, figured if the scoring was comparable to the first fight Holy's taking it, the minute I heard 117-111 being read out I laughed, 9-3? No way, but still doesn't hide the fact Lewis should be 2-0, at least history will tell it like it is.
This is actually fact. I would heavily favor Lewis over Wlad. He is leagues better than any opponent on Wlad's resume. Lennox would not be giving up reach, size, skill, or toughness. It was Lennox Lewis himself who suggested to Corrie Sanders over a phone call "Just hit him and see how he takes it. Nobody's hit him yet." Lennox would hit Wlad early on. Wlad usually takes time to settle in. He almost never goes for an early KO. Most of his opponents are intimidated before the fight even begins, but the same could be said about Lennox's opponents. Lennox jumps on him early. He'll give Wlad no time to establish anything. Wlad does not respond well to being hit. Not at all. Lennox is more likely to land hard as he has all the right tools to do so. Wlad would have to mix it up with Lennox to win this imo. It wouldn't be a tactical boxing match where Wlad stays in his comfort zone. This is prime for prime. Imo Wlad's prime was before Steward took over. Just because he wins these fights with his available comp nowadays doesn't mean he wasn't as effective as his Pre-Steward version. I rate Wlad very highly and I'm a fan, but this is a tough fight for him. A prime Vitali would be just as tough for him too in a hypothetical matchup. For the record: I don't think Wlad's chin is as bad as people say. He's just one of those guys who can dish out punishment, but is not accustomed to taking it. After this many fights, it's still apparent. He doesn't respond well to being hit. Lennox brawled whenever he needed to and still came out the winner.
Friendly reminder: That means **** all. Seriously. Not so much a dig at you, as the many many times I've heard that said, like it means it wasn't a loss for Vitaly, or a win for Lewis. It was, dead set, as conclusive a finish as you can get. 1 man gets cut, with a punch. The other uses his boxing brain, to go to work on that, and tear the other guys face apart so bad the fight is stopped - knowing the scorecard is irrelevant. The cut guy, knows (surely) what the other guy is doing. He can't stop him doing it, and can't get the KO first. It's really that simple. After the cut opened, and it became clear what Lewis was doing, the judges might as well have torn up the score cards. Someone was getting stopped. As it was, the fight didn't get past HALF WAY. It only took Lewis 3 rounds to tear Vitalys face apart after the cut. (and BTW - Vitaly may have wanted to fight on, but his corner putting tape on his cuts before the ref stopped it, indicates perhaps his corner didn't feel the same way)
I agree. Wlad of course has a chance, he's big, in shape, pretty skilled, and hits hard. YOu can never pick a definitive winner, that's why guys actually get into the ring. But IMO Lewis has the edge in most areas that matter - and win would more often in a series of fights, or would be more favoured to win. That's probably a better way of putting it.
Yeah, taking nothing away from him, he showed massive heart and willpower in that fight. I like him, I think he's a high quality champ. Doesn't change the fact that it was a good stoppage, and even if they hadn't stopped it he was on his way to getting KTFO. He was fading badly, Lewis was taking over, and he WOULD have stopped him and even the biggest Vit fans know that, even if they won't admit it. Wlad would have a chance though, if he could get a clean, hard shot to Lewis' chin. Lennox had a decent chin for accumulative shots, but he was vulnerable to one big shot right on the button. I mean, every fighter is, but Lewis more so than most.
I think that prime Wlad is NOW. But still he loses to Lennox Lewis. LL is to powerful. If they battle with their jabs the fight is close. But when they go inside, Lennox punishes Klitschko and executes him. Lennox can be really rough (Grant fight)
Lewis has a better jab and array of punches than Wlad.... or perhaps more truthfully, they are proven against better quality opponents than Wlad's armoury.
i don't expect this fight to be that close. i fail to see where wladimir is more supreme than lennox. personally i would regard wladimir as a poorer version of lennox in the sense that wladimir has a similar sort of style as lennnox, but is just not as good as lennox in a lot of departments.
wlad has a way better jab, and a better straight right hand and a better left hook, but lewis has a better chin, a great uppercut, and a great overhand right. if lewis wants to box, then wlad wins, if lewis wants to fight, what he would have done for sure, then he would knock wlad out
This isn't even close. Lewis. He always dealt with the big guys in devastating style and this matchup would be no exception.
