    Well, clearly... Anyone that dismisses a fighter of Baer's caliber should be ignored. :good

    Schmeling may have had a few more tricks up his sleeve, but I don't see the margin as being wide enough to make any huge difference. He got tagged a bit too often against big punchers as shown against Max baer, who was very crude. Wlad had a similar problem early on, but it hasn't been much of an issue over the past 6 years.

    Start a thread in the classic forum asking why Louis lost to Schmeling, and I can almost guarantee that Janitor and several others will mention inexperience as being among one of the biggest reasons for this defeat, even though I agree to some extent that lack of discipline had just as much to do with it..

    I thought it pertainant to mention that asside from Louis, Baer never fought anyone on Wlad's level, and the one man who was, killed him..

    Baer never defeated anyone who was similar to Wlad, except for in size.

    If he wasn't "peak", then why wouldn't he be past his "best".. Doesn't "best" account for peak?

    How is this evidence? The man was 26 years old and won the heavyweight title one year earlier... When was he supposed to be "peak"?

    Fair enough.

    Wlad would KO him in my opinion. To much speed, power and strengh and a fantastic corner.

    So, because Baer showed up disciplined and at his very best Schmeling suddenly got caught too often by big punchers? I don´t think there is a huge difference between Wlad and Schmeling. I rank them very similar, in fact I rank Wlad one spot above Max. I just think that p4p-wise schmeling is the superior fighter.

    Of course some people will say that. I didn´t write that nobody has the opinion. I wrote it´s rare and that other excuses are more common. IMO those are excuses anyway.
    Btw. Janitor is also one of the guys who wrote in the past that Baer was Louis finest performance.

    See, that´s where we differ. I don´t think Wlad is anywhere near Louis´ class. He is in the same class as Schmeling. Who was beaten by Baer.

    Wlad never defeated anyone who was similar to Baer, too.

    No it doesn´t.
    best = prime
    very best = peak
    That´s how I see it.

    So? How many champs fell from grace after winning the championship. They won it and their drive, their desire went out of the window. Baer´s best performances were Schmeling and Carnera. He was never as good before or afterwards. That Baer however was very, very dangerous and would beat a few hws that I rank above him IMO. Like Wlad.
