Interestingly, Spinks might give Hagler more problems than Pavlik would, even though Pavlik is a considerably better middleweight than Spinks.

Agreed, because Hagler (like Lewis) was smart, and generally didn't see the point in giving the other guy the chance of landing the jackpot punch if he knew he could out-box rather than out-brawl him, hence his only losses being bad decisions.

The real big point here though is that Hagler (unlike Lewis) always knew he had brawling in store if he needed it, and when he used it he had no fear of being KO'd because he had one of the best chins in history. Losing to Leonard is a bit of a black mark, but everyone knows that fight could have gone either way and Leonard is also an ATG and multiple weight Champ.

Whichever way you look at this match-up it's bad news for Pavlik. He might have won on Saturday but that 2nd round told us so much about what would have happened had he fought Hagler, and as I said in my previous post, Haglers punch output and pressure would NOT have dropped, even if Pavlik had managed to escape the initial onslaught. He'd have been worn down and butchered.

:patsch Short guys absolutly must get in range when fighting taller fighters and it usually a disadvantage !:deal

Taller guys are at a disadvantage on the inside, and cannot use ducking and crouching against shorter guys very effectively. It works both ways.

:patsch So when ALI was dropped by COOPER ????? Know what Im getting at ? And you guys are funny ! LARRY HOLMs is considered to have a great chin by your accounts because he got dropped and hurt and managed to survive and win ! But now that same proven trait is apparently detremental ! You guys are amusing ! PAVLIKS height advantage coupled with his power and durability would make this fight hell for MARV win or lose ! :deal

Another rational mind, thank **** for that :good

Bear in mind as a kid Hagler wasn't exactly a favourite of mine, as an Englishman I was more than upset when he destroyed both Alan Minter (who ****ing deserved it in hindsight) and Tony Sibson, who was a much under-rated fighter....I was supporting Leonard the night they fought and won a lot of money when Sugar Ray got the decision :happy

Like a lot of things, as I got older I started to appreciate just how ****ing AWESOME Hagler was in his day, and the painful memories of him beating my heroes passed. This is a guy who had every attribute going as a fighter, power in both hands, awesome chin, great defence, stamina to die for, skills in abundance and a killer instinct that would make Tyson **** in his shorts. To hear someone denigrate the memory of this guy by saying a paper champ like Pavlik would be anything other than a foregone conclusion makes my ****ing **** boil

Mr. Ironic nickname is taking a beating reminiscent of those Bigtime9 gets. Some people are just too stubborn to admit defeat.

Are you on dope. I just want to know seriously. Have you seen a boxing match. There are equal advantages and disadvantages for both. Short guys know that they are short and dont fight tall. They have been boxing short all of there lives and found a way to be competitive with taller rangier fighters. A short fighter is not going to sit on the outside and try to out jab the taller fighter. Like the taller fighter is not going to smother his punches in close and try to bang the shorter armed fighter on the inside. :nut

 But the short guys must get in range FIRST and consequently take shots first before this can happen ! Its also very easy to clinch on those occations ! HEIGHT is an advantage by all accounts !:good

Ali went on to prove that he had one of the greatest chins of all time, whereas Pavlik has not done so.

Why, when fighters who had these qualities did NOT give Marv trouble, would Pavlik?

Unless you're an excellent clincher, it's just as difficult to get a small guy off you as it is to get inside on a tall guy.

 the short guy will always get hit first ! its also why short guys have shorter carreers ! they must work harder to compensate for the disadvantage !:nut
