Hagler would smash Kelly in Half. Kelly is a great fighter, but Marvin is much more natural at the weight and would body punch him to death, Marvin was also one of the greatest in-fighters there was and would just break him down to pieces. Hagler KO 3
hagler was a legend, a truely great middlewgt of all time, he would have worn pavlik down and stopped him from round 6 to round 9. but to be fair pavlik is looking good, lets just see how the next few fights go!!!
I wrote the post regarding the two's resume prior to his second win over Taylor. And the Draw with Vito was quite unjust the way I saw it, as I had Hagler winning quite convincingly on points, he just faded toward the end. How did you see the fight?
I did have Hagler winning by a couple points if I remember correctly, though it's been awhile since I've seen it. I'd have to rewatch it to see exactly what I'd score it now. I don't remember it as being that one sided for Marvin, but then again, the only time I saw it was on ESPN classic last year. Vito himself, though he was a tough SOB with a shitload of endurance, wasn't a world beater at MW. So, with Hagler's early losses to Bugaloo and Monroe (who were good, experienced regional fighters, but not world class) , combined with a very tough fight against a game but overmatched Antuofermo, is what leads me to think Pavlik would have the edge in wins purely up to that point. Not that it's a vast difference, I just think Pavlik's got the better wins up to now. That said, it's tricky timing for the thread to have popped up when Pavlik was 25 and to have the cutoff then, because it wasn't until just after he turned 26 that Hagler won his title and really became the force he's remembered as.
the people picking hagler by stoppage within the first 5 rounds, i dont know what your thinking... you guys realise that lesser fighters then pavlik have gone past that with hagler? Pavlik is strong, big, powerful, good workrate and a good chin.... he probably would get owned in the majority of the fight, but i garuntee you it goes at least into the championship rounds. some of you go so far overboard with these ATG's vs todays rising stars its ridicoulas.
I agree, I always thought that Monzon would have beaten Hagler, and Pavlik has the same style for the most part. I do think its to early to say. However I would pick Pavlik if he and Hagler were the same stages of their careers.
