Primes: Hagler versus Pavlik?

Hagler ko 1. It took taylor 2 rounds to hurt Pavlik. Hagler will do it faster and finish him.

 

Condsidering Pavlik was just schooled by a 43 year old HOFer...... Hagler by TKO 7.

And thi is what I think people are forgetting. Hagler has everything Taylor ever dreamed of having. You better believe if Hagler had Kelly hurt like Taylor did, there would be no chance for Kelly.

This is where many posters are getting this all wrong. Prime Haglar was a Boxer/Puncher, not a brawler. His style changed as he aged, but in his prime he prefered to box and move.

Pavlik is more of a stalker than anything else. He's had one fight where he intentionally brawled, and that was Miranda. The plan going in was for Kelly to be the better bully, and it was the right plan.

Kelly has been troubled by speed and movement combined with enough power to keep him honest. Haglar had all of that, but Kelly's real problems came at 170, not 160.

Kelly would have an enormous height and reach advantage. Tommy Hearns is 6' 1" compared to Pavlik at 6' 2 1/2" Kelly is WAY more durable than Hearns was at 160. Hearns WANTED to go to war with Marvin. I don't think Pavlik has the same kid of psycholigical make-up.

This would be more of a tactical fight than a brawl. Marvin would bob and weave, and use his great right jab to get inside. Pavlik would try to control the distance with his own jab, but he lacks the handspeed it would take to make that work consistenly against a prime Haglar. He also lacks the foot speed it would take to keep Marvin from closing the gap. Contrary to what many posters seem to think, this is no walk down primrose lane for Marvin. Kelly would have his moments, but in the end, Haglar takes him out in about 10 or 11 rounds. Call me crazy, but I do not think it would be a TKO. I think it would be a clean KO from Haglar landing a perfect straight left.

well after Hopkins beat Pavlik it is easy to figure, but I notice this was put up before that fight. Before Hopkins fought Pavlik I said that Hagler would knock out Pavlik in round 5 of an exciting fight. After seeing the Hopkins fight I think Hagler would stop Pavlik in round 8 of a boring fight.

 

Hagler would have given Pavlik a mighty beating.

 

Hagler pretty easily. He was awesome in his prime.
