i think its 50:50. hatton had the style to beat koysta that night, what else would he have changed to make the result any different?
I think it goes the distance but Kostya wins for me. I see Hatton employing the same tactics he did when they actually fought but believe a younger Tsyzu would be better equppied to cope and would win a clear points decision around 8-4 rounds. Can't see a prime Hatton getting knocked out, before Floyd broke him down Hatton had a good punch resistance and it decreased over time culminationg in Mannys spectacular Thunder Punch Kayo.
Hatton is always going to be a hard style for Kostya...with his strength and determination he is going to make it difficult for Tszyu to get punching room and fight his fight. But give Kostya an extra step in the speed, reflexes and conditioning departments that he was missing in their fight (and a better ref)..he gets a stoppage in the mid rounds.
kostya never a top fighter?....godamn, one of the best 140 lbers of our era if not the best not a top fighter?.....cmon man...
We had this discussion waaaaaaaaaay back and we all agreed Hatton and Warren did a absolute blinder in matchmaking they caught Kostay at the right time, he only did 3 rounds in nearly 2 years if i remember rightly? either way he was injured and done very few rounds. Hatton was good that night but watching the fight at least 10+ times i thought Kostya ring rust caught up with him rather then Hatton being the better boxer. Anyway its history in my eyes Kostay at his best was WAYYYYYY better then Hatton at his best
Prime Tszyu will never lose to Hatton. Big left and right bomb will put the manchester native down for the full count.
Had Tszyu fought Hatton anywhere else but Manchester and/or had a different referee, he would have beaten Hatton that night. True story.
The sad truth is we will never know. The history books will only show that Hatton defeated Tszyu. Tszyu is probably my favourite retired fighter. I would have preferred to see him beaten by a Mayweather or Pacman. But the Hatton style was the one he had trouble with. It is what it is.
KT throws a straight right that comes out the back of Hatton's head. KT by murder. Hatton is very ordinary compared to prime Kostya, different level of fighter. Hatton caught him when he was old and still needed a ton of help from the ref to get the job done. imho, if they would have rematched in LV, even a diminished KT could have eked one out if not stop Hatton. I think KT just decided that his heart wasn't in it anymore.
