Just to point out how far back Sharkey had gone by 1933..he would only win 2 of his remaining 7 fights after the carnera defeat. His next fight, 3 months later, he lost to journeyman kingfish levinskey who can barely tie his own shoes. He even lost to Tommy Loughran, a man he destroyed in 3 rounds 4 years earlier. And of course, Sharkey himself easily shut out carnera over 15 rounds 2 years prior.

The Associated Press reported: "Before the Boston sailor's hand was raised in token of victory after 15 rounds of spectacular milling, Sharkey had floored Carnera for one nine-count, closed one of the Italian's eyes and had given him so savage a beating that Primo was on the verge of a knockout on a half dozen occasions."

"One of the most brutal uppercuts I've seen"

Please, I love you and your videos to death but you're talking nonsense here. I don't agree at all it was some devastating all time great knockout. The knockout had plenty of controversy around it

Some believe the fight was fixed. The Associated Press reported: "Skeptics pointed to the shift in betting odds to 6 to 5 in Carnera's favor, shortly before the fight, marking the first time a title challenger ever had crawled through the ropes a favorite."

Why would carnera be the favorite if Sharkey EASILY defeated him 2 years prior?

So we should discount victories when a challenger beat a champion who declined a bit?
    That happens pretty often.
    And it's all relative.

I don't care what some agenda nerds said about the knockout.
All I do is pour through footage, looking for the tiniest details, to determine if they are worth showing people, and why.

If that uppercut isn't legit, then I've never edited a video.
It's not only obviously legit, it's one of the most brutal KOs I have ever seen.

I don't consider Sharkey the champion in 33. That decision over Schmeling in 32 was one of boxings all time biggest robberies

I think you need to exit whatever matrix you've fallen into. Joe Louis isn't tap dancing circles around those two athletes.

I don't consider King Henry IVs claim to the English throne to be very good, but I still accept him as being the king from the point where he usurped King Richard II.

If we start drawing up alternative lineages, based on every bad decision, we will still be untangling it in ten years time!

Fine. Lewis didn’t beat Holyfield that first fight, he only drew with him.

Joe Louis Saying," he had nothing " isn't a positive appraisal.imo

He defended his title against a man he outweighed by over 80lbs a man noted for his lack of power.
His other defence was against a man who had not been ranked for several years.
Want to look at how many defences Wilder had made and rank him purely on that?
Taking into account Carnera's fixed fights ,however many they may have been ,doesnt make you a "drama hungry ignoramus," it just means they dont agree with your revisionist narrative which doesn't take long to provoke you to personal insults as we know from experience.

We know several journalist who actually watched him fight from ringside believed many of his bouts were pre-arranged.
We know Sharkey alluded to this when he was interviewed in the 70's.
We know two of Carnera's managers Charley Friedman and Leon See admitted they fixed his fights.
We know See claimed over 30 of them were tank jobs.
We know several of his opponents were renowned dive artists.
We know several of his opponents had their licenses withdrawn ,and or were suspended after fighting him.
We know Carnera's comment on Shulberg's book was,"it is all true and more,I was just a piece of meat to them"
We know this was verifed by his Daughter.
We know Louis said he couldn't punch.
We know Gains said he didn't punch his weight.
We know Tunney said he falls apart when he is hit.
We know once he was free of his original mob ties, and their exploitation and protection ,he was twice wrecked by a journeyman whilst himself only 29 years of age

Carnera was a competent boxer , for his size , who lacked both top end power or a good chin .
Any attempt to remake him into the image of a great Super Heavyweight fighter who merits being spoken of in the same breath as Lewis ,Wlad Vitali,Bowe,is not only absurdly contrary, it is the result of a self induced delusion, possibly motivated by the desire to be recognized as some sort of new messianic expert

Despite 22 knockouts in his 25-0 record, Gerry Cooney remains a mystery man. His buildup to this expected $10 million bonanza for each boxer is the most carefully controlled con since Primo Carnera won the heavyweight title half a century ago.

The difference, of course, is that Primo Carnera's ascension to the title was surrounded by scandal. Many of his opponents were considered to be setups. In contrast, Gerry Cooney's rise has been tarnished not by suspicion, only by honest questions. Can he take a punch? Can he endure beyond the first few rounds? Can he keep his cool in the cauldron of the gaudy ''big fight'' scene.

''The difference,'' says Harry Markson, the former Madison Square Garden boxing impresario, ''is that Carnera was exploited, while Cooney has been the exploiter.''

Primo Carnera's career is perhaps best remembered as the sad inspiration for the motion picture ''The Harder They Fall.'' And yet Ray Arcel, the 82-year-old trainer who is a consultant to Larry Holmes, considers Primo Carnera to have been a ''more accomplished boxer'' than Gerry Cooney is now.

''Carnera could jab and move, and by the time he fought for the title he had about 80 fights,'' Ray Arcel says. ''To me, Cooney is absolutely inexperienced.''

He has a version of the title. Given what happened when Carnera faced a huge right hand puncher, would you pick Carnera to beat him?
