Not sure if this match up involving Primo has being covered but anyway.. Two big men from yesteryears .,Who s the Victor. 15 round s .No 3 knock down rule !
There some footage on YouTube of Firpo against Willard and Wills. Probably the best stuff to watch to judge him on for this. Primo has a few fights with people of the right size, though probably not ability
Gonna go with the "Wild Bull"...just so he can win the title that just eluded him by the "sportswriters" throwing Dempsey back into the ring.
Well I believe the old Bull could pull it off here .Striking out first, having Primo hurt then numerous knock down s !
Hard to say, firpo has the power to rag doll the behemoth like baer did, on the other hand carnera is a behemoth with a cast iron chin. Good match up but I'll have to go with carnera here
Wills was signiifcantly better than Primo and that wasn't the best of Firpo who was overweight and flabby. Carnera was a sucker for a right hand and dropped when tagged by one. Firpo has him up and down like a yo yo in an untidy brawl which sees the Bull just about stop Primo before he runs out of puff himself.
I like Carnera. For all the weak chin criticism, I think Carnera might well take a better punch than Firpo. Firpo was KO'd 3 times in 37 fights. Carnera 5 times in 102 fights. While his critics harp on his supposed weak jaw, in fact he was only stopped before the war by the best punchers of the era, Louis and Baer, and the heavy-handed Leroy Haynes, who has an impressive KO record. Carnera went down a lot against Baer, but so did Firpo against Dempsey. And I doubt Firpo would last 6 rounds with Louis. I also think Carnera for all his awkwardness is by far the more skillful boxer and wins on points if it goes the distance. Certainly Firpo has a puncher's chance, but his conditioning and stamina don't seem up to Primo's. I like Carnera to survive Firpo's early attack and go on to wear out the Bull for a decision or late KO.
Maybe I have to watch more of Firpo, but despite the oaf handycap it seems to me that Firpo is superior.
I think this is the alternative scenario to mine.On the chins Carnera was dropped by a journeyman light heavy, and by Young Stribling and Sharkey prior to winning the title I doubt they drop Firpo.
After watching Firpo, I am certain that you will see that Carnera was better technically, even if you don't think very highly of Carnera.
