Godfrey actually looked pretty big to me, so I looked it up. He was shorter than he looked at 6 foot 2 to Carnera's 6 foot 6, but then a whopping 250 pounds (only 12 lighter than Primo). That' pretty damn heavy for a 6 foot 2 guy.

1-Clearly Godfrey's as he pelted Carnera with several big rights. Godfrey.
2-I also had Godfrey winning this round for the first half. He was the better man on the inside. Then about halfway through, the film zoomed way out. From what I could tell the fight was even. When it zoomed back in again, Carnera seemed to have hurt Godfrey, who was taking quite a barrage. Even.
3-Carnera jabbed more and this time was the better fighter on the inside. Godfrey's objective apparently was to trap Carnera in the corners and hammer him into submission. It only worked now and then though. Carnera.
4-Godfrey was hurt a little by some right uppercuts that Carnera landed throughout the round. Carnera.
5-Carnera was down from what must of been a low blow or Carnera was faking it. Truth is, I couldn't spot a low blow even in slow mo. I kept seeing the motion of the blow by Godfrey, but I never saw it land, much less land low. So going off the sketchy clip there, who the hell am I to say what happened? and what about you? who the hell are you to say what happened?

Verdict: Perhaps a little interesting, but I wasn't crazy about the film quality, and I don't know Korean. I can't reason any significance that this match possibly had on the boxing scene at that time. Not outrightly bad, just not significant imo. I think this one is decent enough and short enough just to say, be your own judge on this one.

Btw, I am aware of Primo's infamy for fixes? This obviously wasn't a fix, but does anybody think that Primo may have been faking?

General report on this was that Godfrey was unjustly dq’d in a fight he was winning. Leading to suspicion. However the footage doesn’t lend me to believe he was winning - rather an even contest.

You summed up my reaction spot on. I would score the fight as you did.

On the foul, I watched a slow motion replay and it was a left hook with Godfrey, who was obscured by Carnera, appearing to duck and bring it up. Watching one frame at a time I could make out Godfrey's glove at about the level of Carnera's knee as it was coming toward him. So while I couldn't see the punch connect, a low blow certainly seems likely.

This is the only film I have seen of Godfrey. Other than being big, he doesn't show that much. He just plows forward mauler style. Carnera was clearly the better boxer. I got the impression Godfrey was tiring fairly early.

Watching the film - of course it's difficult to see with Carnera obscuring the punch - I do agree that with Godfrey's body language this punch appears to have been coming up from the ground, but what is more significant is the positioning of the referee. Although he is not in the picture as the punch lands, one can see he immediately enters from the right of Carnera. His positioning suggests he had to have had a perfect view of the punch. Whether or not Carnera was faking the severity of the shot is something we'll never know.

It's in Carnera's favor then. I just looked as well. Godfrey's DQ losses include two fights on low blows, one for hitting a man while down, and once for kidney punches.

It was rumored that Godfrey would do business for white opponents,if true being dsq'd did not carry the stigma of a clear cut defeat.

Godfrey's best weight was also 15/ 20lbs below the 250lbs + he often came in
