Just goes to show the guy was totally legit. He fought a lot too. Any fan of superheavyweights cannot dismiss Primo. He embodies everything a great one can be.

He didn't actually miss many top contenders of the era either.

Schmeling is the obvious one, and then you have Walker and Hamas who were both names when he was active.

My thoughts concerning Carnera have been altered by the information supplied recently on these boards. He was a very capable fighter.

He didn't want to give Schmeling a title shot, because he felt that Schmeling unfairly avoided him.

I blued him in by mistake, and this was the best match I could find to colour him back.

Incidentally if anybody spots any errors, let me know so that I can correct them.

Certainly quantity, perhaps not the greatest of quality of contenders. But suppose that could be said of numerous champions over the years. It does show though how the actual amount of fighting and regular fight s has changed over the past 70 odd year s. While I'm impressed with the amount primo s actually faced I won't put it in the same bracket as a greb.

Primo Carnera was not a great fighter, but neither was he fraud that many have sought to portray him as.

Can we perhaps get a consensus that he was something between?

Back in the 1960's, many boxing "fans" regarded Primo as the worst hvywt Champion of them all. Now with all the videos available....he gets a better shake.

Seems like once Bowe began to fight a few contenders together, his career wound down. IVe never thought of it like that before. But that is what happened.
