Primo Carnera vs Tommy Morrison

A rather pertinent question in this case!

 

You, sir, are incorrect.

 

It would be a rash man who picked Morrison over any world class opponent, with any degree of confidence.

 

To be fair, if they hadn't have fought and the matchup was mooted on here, no one would pick Morrison to beat George Foreman with a disciplined performance.

 

It would be an insensible man who thought what passed for world class in the era of Duesenberg would do the same in the modern era.

 

I don't think Morrison is even in Carnera's class, relative to his era to be honest.

 

I admit I would probably pick the older Foreman if I didn't know, but I don't really rate him that highly as a head to head force anyway.

 

I think Tommy's speed of hand and foot (the latter at least in comparison to Carnera's) could win him this one.

That said, Tommy was a model of inconsistency. I learned to never bet a dime on his fights.

 

It is interesting that you say that, because Carnera was pretty darn consistent.

In his prime, if he wasn’t fighting a top flight guy like Sharkey of Baer, he could be trusted to take care of business.

 

True, but Morrison had a top flight left hook- on the highest level in the history of the division- and guess what shot Sharkey kept hitting Carnera with?

That would make me very nervous if backing Primo.

 

Ive been revisiting Morrison a bit recently and he was not a bum .. his power, heart, speed and conditioning were real .. his chin was average but he got off the floor to win on numerous occasions against pretty decent opposition such as a Hipp or a Williams, ect .. he beat Ruddock, he defeated Foreman fighting a very smart fight .. Carnera had all the heart in the world, a decent jab, was very well conditioned his own shaky chin, decent recuperative powers but very limited power and a poor defense .. I see Tommy as too much .. the steroid thing is an entirely different issue ..

 

I always felt that Carnera’s principal vulnerability, was to a right hand personally.

 

Agree with you Janitor, I always thought It was the right hand which troubled Primo the most.

 

Morrison would easily knock out Carnera. Primo couldn't box and had a ridiculous glass chin.

 

I like Primo here to stop Tommy around rd 9-10
