    Not yet he doesn’t.

At this time Fury is a fighter with one big win, while Carnera has about half a dozen quality wins.

Obviously this is a very fluid situation at the moment.

    Fury has beaten

    Wladimir
    Chisora
    Johnson
    Cunningham.

Plus he is yet to taste defeat although probably should have gone 1-1 with Big John.

    Carnera has beaten:

    Sharkey, Stribling, Godfrey, Levinsky, Schaaf.

And he was defeated a few times in his prime, twice by ko.

At the very worst they have an evenly matched resume although I would argue that Fury had the advantage. In terms of film, we see Fury totally neutralise any offence coming from the reigning world champion and he looked incredible against Chisora in the rematch. Carnera generally looks poor on film aside from a ko uppercut against Sharky.

I hope I don't see too many Tyson Fury threads in the classic section. He has not proven much at all. And his mouth is ridiculous

Yes, Fury has size, but to quote something I read, he looked like a novice giraffe throwing slapping punches at an aging 39-year-old champion.

The crucial difference here is that the name fighters that Carnera beat, were ranked at the time that he beat them.

At this stage Fury’s only truly world level win is beating Wlad.

You could of course argue that this is better than any single win on Carnera’s resume, but a significant run of form against world class opposition, should trup one big win.

    Carnera for now.

Chisora and Cunningham where both top ten when Fury beat them. Wlad was top 1.

People are assuming Carnera has a better resume without actually checking the facts.

It's not all about ring rankings. Chisora will go down as one of the better contenders of the era, pushed Fury all the way in their first fight, he took 4 rounds off Vitali, rightfully beat Helenius, pushed Haye hard and beat Kevin Johnson. Not all wins but pushing the best all the way.

Not that I'm too big on ring rankings but was Cunningham a top10 Ring HW?

Either way beating Waldo decimates anything Carnera achieved by a long way.......and I still want to see Fury decimated tbh

I happen to agree that Chisora and Cunnigham were both somewhat better than their ranking suggested, and likely would have been ranked with better management.

At the end of the day though we are comparing resumes, and Carnera beat a significant number of ranked fighters, against Fury’s one.

I think we have to give it to him at the moment.

    Yes they were.

Hell Cunningham and Wlad are still top ten now.

That means out of the top ten available fighters Fury has already beaten two of them. Could Carnera make that claim as champion?

He is ranked now, for what it's worth.

    I don't follow ring either.

    Primo Carnera, Champion
    Max Baer
    Tommy Loughran
    King Levinsky
    Max Schmeling
    Don McCorkindale
    Patsy Perroni
    Walter Neusel
    Charley Massare
    Steve Hamas
    Lee Ramage

At that time Carnera had beaten: Levinsky and that is it. He hasn't beaten significantly more top 10 HW fighters than Fury has.
