Not much to say on this one, since the clip is only two minutes after all. Fast paced slugfest it appears. Carnera doesn't use his well-known jab, it's just a firefight. In the 2nd, Carnera drops him with a left hook. Campolo beats the count. But Carnera hurts him with a big right uppercut, followed a few seconds later by another left hook that puts his lights out.

Perhaps someone else has more to say on the fight than I do?

Also, does anyone know anything about their second fight?

Carnera looks a stronger puncher here. That right uppercut again does damage, but his right cross seems to work better, possibly because he was not punching downward.

The bottom line is Carnera again looks good.

Campolo wasn't all that much, but he was big and could punch and was rated in the top ten for a while. He KO'd Erminio Spalla, Isadoro Gastanaga, Tom Heeney, and Jose Santa, and outpointed Arturo Godoy. He drew with Johnny Risko.

    A worthy win for Carnera.

On the second fight, I only know what is obvious. Carnera won the decision in Campolo's home town.

Say, @mcvey, do you like Carnera? I'm not assuming you do, but you do seem attracted to threads about him.

Gastanaga 6 feet one inch whom Box Rec credit with an 88 inch reach! Was stopped 19 times up ending him was hardly a feat! Campolo added 56lbs to his frame in the 3 years between the Carnera fights. Campolo creeps in at number 10 at the end of 1929 I dont know if he was rated other than that one time.

I've nothing against the man on a personal basis I think he was a brave enough guy with a rather pedestrain style ,a guy who lacked a good chin and power. I do get pissed off by the revisionism continually posted here about what an underated fighter he was, but everyone is entitled to their opinion.

You view him as a piece of ****, anyone who thinks slightly higher about him believes you underrate him.

This listed weights for the second Carnera-Campolo fight are 281 for Campolo and 238 for Carnera. These are obviously reversed, as Carnera is listed much lighter than he ever was in any other fight, and Campolo is way heavier. I think Carnera was the 281 guy and Campolo 238. That makes better sense.

No I don't at all,I view him as being about Euro level, a fighter who was shamefully exploited by scum.On his best night good enough to win a close dec against the likes of Levinsky but not good enough to beat the best men without " outside assistance."

Nothing makes that much sense in this story.

He was still a boogey man in the division! Louis’s management avoided him. Probably because the risk vs upside wasn’t worth it.

IMO Carneras boxing skills were best on display in the Uzcudun title defense fight.

Slap my ass and call me Sally if he didn’t look like a modern skilled elite SHW in that fight.

I haven't seen the Uzcudun fight yet. Soon though.

No thanks. I prefer to keep my hands to myself.

Probably because he was unranked and there was some question mark about whom he was connected with?
