Primo Carnera was as legitimate a champion as any there has ever been.

Fighters aren't always honest when they lose. While Sharkey had more skills than Carnera for sure, he also had a suspect chin, and blew hot and cold in the ring .

I have seen the reverse angle shot of the KO, and its a legit knock out punch.

If you think Primo had any fixes for him, did he take any dives? Fixes work both ways. While I do think Carena might have had a fixed fight or two, most of his work is legitamate.

 

Carnerra is just too big and strong in this fight and Sharkey had been ready to go all through this round, Carnerra is universally under rated as the post on the youtube fight says he looked very fit and with good skills for such a big man, he is not the bum and is far from the worst fighter to have held the HW crown.

 

One year earlier Sharkey spanked him in a one sided beating.

Name one other one punch KO Primo scored. How about a knockdown?

Why does no one rate him as an all time puncher despite his KO record?

Why was he a .500% fighter at only 29 when dropped by the mob ?

 

You don't think a 250 pound guy can KO you with proper leverage and timing?

God knows it's unheard of for a better boxer to... You know... Outbox the larger less competent fighter! In regards to what Sharkey did against Carnera the first time.

I think 'da prime had some power. Not huge power, but it he got his weight and leverage behind a punch he could deliver a solid blow for sure.

Carnera once hit a person hard enough to cause the top rope to snap from the fall.

If you ask me, Carnera was a better champion that Braddock. Was Carnera a great fighter? No, but he was a legit champion with wins over Loughran, Sharkey, Uzcudun, Shaff, Gross, and Livensky. The Young Stribling fights were likely fixes, but I think the ones I mentioned before that were on the level.

After watching the films, I think Carnera had loads of guts, and was un-rated as an athlete. Carnera also had a sense of humor.

When a reporter once asked Carnera what he thought of Hollywood, he said he would knock him out too.

 

No question that he had a ton of heart ... in that regard, I rank him with the best ...:thumbsup

 

The Neusal win was via a cut eye and opinion was the the German dogged it.

 

Someone should take this post and make a whole sticky thread out of it, so that everytime this topic comes up, people can just be directed to it and save the forum time and space........Good post.....:good
