I can see a KO through relentless frustrated pressure eventually Fergy, looking terrible leading up to it, going for broke. This fight I would like to see mate, a 5ft10" fighting even lower in a crouch style bomber v a 6ft 5" stand up straight boxer. With a decent plan and that size difference, It could maybe prove too much ?? Jabbing, moving back, tieing him up close. Surely a physical fight up close, leaning dragging etc is gonna sap the tank of the much smaller Rock. I pick Rocky by ko, but im left thinking, is the other guy just too big for that mate
Yep I definitely see the smaller man struggling at times here pal. At times Rocky being too eager to slam in those punches and getting tied up .Not a straightforward ko in my opinion AV.
I think Rocky is too low and Primo can't land anything. Everything deflected and nothing clean. He'd swing and miss aiming down that low. And Marciano was extremely effective at throwing those body shots when opponents missed a punch. That sure seems to have a bigger effect on the heavies far more than other divisions---a guy misses and eats a counter to the body and it wears them out quick/alligator arms/defensive shell. Ref waves it off somewhere between 8-11th round.
We would have to favor Marciano here, but this would be a bad stylistic match up for him. I don't think that Marciano would look good winning this, and I doubt that he would do as well as Baer.
The bizarre thing is that Primo's huge size advantage might excelled against the so much smaller Rocky .. Rocky may be the best fighter Primo could defeat based own size and match up styles .. forget about Primo hurting Rocky .. he just might have been abe to jab and clinch and control the pace ..
See Carnera vs Baer but it doesn't take as long Carnera is underrated but this is just a mean matchup, the big guy took too many beatings in his career to deserve a fight with Prime Rocky
Baer was about 6’ 3” w an 80” reach. Rocky was 5’ 10” was a 68” reach. A completely different match up.
I say the height difference goes against Primo. It is hard to generate power when you are punching straight down, that is why they teach the crouch that Rocky used. "Make a tall fighter taller, make a small fighter smaller," is the old saying. Marciano does what he does: comes in low, takes a few ineffectual punches, and starts the buzzsaw attacks when he gets inside. Primo was a lot better than he gets credit for, but not in Marciano's class.
Yes Sharkey who wasnt in shape and broke camp midway through training to rush home to check on the well being of his children after an anonymous threat had been made. Plus fat Jimmy Maloney who was a second rater at best.
Some tall fighters can effectively handle small guys, Foreman said he had no trouble with Frazier ,but that Ali always would.
Yes Max could wing his right hand without any adjustment and land it pretty much as he pleased. Carnera had a well muscled torso but that still might be the key to beating him,to target the body.Of course you have to get past those tree trunk arms .
Sharkey knocked Carnera down in their first fight, at an even 6 foot he wasnt that much taller than Rocky ,and he sure wasnt any big puncher.
Carnera' best bet would be to jab at range and adopt the Wlad tactics in close ,bear down on Rocky, pushing on the shoulders and back to frustrate and wear him down.We know who the better fighter is, but were are back in Loughran territory with Rocky conceding 80+lbs.
