That's my point, if Sharkey and Maloney can beat Carnera, why the hell can't Rocky, who hits harder than both of them combined???

Marciano also hit harder than Baer, had a better chin than Baer, had more stamina than Baer, had better defense than Baer...

Also a short reach can some times be an advantage, such as with in-fighting, and being short helps with the crouch/Bob and weave. Mike Tyson explain both of these in an interview somewhere, want me to find it?

Guys it's a simple discussion. Styles make fights. Carnera dwarfed Marciano. He had excellent stamina and was stronger. This is not about P4P better as it is not even a comparison. It is a matter of styles. Carnera was at his best, whatever that was , was against small fighters he could jab against and smother. Marciano was not going to outmuscle him and may not have wore him down to the body as Carnera was a monster in the strength and stamina departments.. a very small, not that fast fighter with a very short reach who excelled on strength and power to wear guys out might not match up that well here. A stinker type of fight but one that may prove a strange ending is conceivable.

I think Carnera is honestly a little underrated, he was pretty powerful and he's vastly overshadowed by Baer and Louis. While I do believe Marciano wins by KO in the 8th round or so, Carnera would still give him a tough fight and land some good hits on the Rock.

I doubt Marciano hit harder than Baer, and he didn't have a better chin.

    Confession time.
I made this post as a wind up,.then ,when I saw posters giving it serious consideration I thought,Im obligated to do the same! if you read my posts here, I think you can see where I change from whimsical to serious. Thanks to all for turning what was originally a bit of a joke into a decent thread. I'm humbled!

Louis stated it, and if you don't wanna go into that debate again, then Marciano just has the superior feats of punch power.

He absolutely had the better chin

Louis did say that but that is based on his fight where Baer really didn't show up .. Pretty sure if Baer hit Louis with his best Joe would have felt it .. as far as chin's both guys ( Rocky and Max ) had terrific ones ..

I agree, max was off. It was reported that his right hand was broken...

Shame he never got a rematch

I do wonder if Carnera were to fight with same level of disregard for the Marquess of Queensberry rules as Rocky, then a crouching Marciano affords the perfect target for rabbit punches and many other dirty fight actions, by the taller bigger Carnera.

I too feel this match up would be a styles nightmare for Rocky.
Rocky was like a Mountie, he got his man in the end, but often had to go through a battle in early stages to get the win.

Logically based on his record you have to say Rocky would prevail in the end, but it would not be as easy as some might imagine.

This is just your opinion and as such will be given varying degrees of gravitas, depending on which poster is reading it.

...I can’t believe this even a discussion...Carnera? Really? Man...Rocky is going to go from the best hW ever to not being able to beat anyone soon. What a fall from grace. Rocky ruins him within 4.
