I wrote this article, and it is on the main page, wonder if anyone had any thoughts or opinions on the article of Hamed himself? www.boxingnew24.com This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected
Well written, good article, it's clear you care about the subject-matter, which is always nice to see. I disagree with most of it as I'm sure you would've guessed, especially that Boom Boom was his best win, for me it was undoubtedly Vuyani Bungu. I think you grossly overrate Naz, you think I underrate him severely - let's agree on that he was very talented, had great punch power, and that your article is quality. :good
your mom should've called you Harry BTW if it wasn't for the prince, I might never have been introduced to boxing. fact.
Thanks for that, honestly, I haven't been watching boxing for that long, but I enjoyed doing the reaserch, and I appreciate it when people who know boxing as well as you do say that it's a good article. Just out of interest, why do Bungu was his best win?
Bungu is the best fighter he ever fought other than MAB, and Naz was superb that night. OK, Bungu's career may not have been as good as Boom Boom's or vasquez's or even Kelley's or Medina's, but Naz fought them all when they were past their respective primes, whereas Bungu was a prime quality fighter holding wins over Danny Romero and Kennedy McKinney on his record (McKinney in particular was a very good fighter in the 90s).
i think prince was one of the best second tier fighters i have ever seen. there is a considerable difference in quality between first and second tier fighters that is often very hard to distinguish but it is there. prince could have made a much longer and richer boxing career if he would have avoided the very best like floyd seems to have done. i mean how many fighters out there are at marcos level?
I would say that Oscar is the one resposible for introducing me to boxing, although since that introduction Hamed has become my favourite fighter, perhaps because I remeber when I was kid him being a really big deal, he has a lot of nostalgia value attached.
Some good points. I think Hamed was always in with a chance of beating whoever he faced, because he had that power than could rock fighters to thier socks (as Kevin Kelley would say..). For me, a prime Barrera is at the very top of the tree in boxing, an A+ fighter, Hamed was A - or an A fighter, IMO. But that said, Hamed coming into the Barrera fight was a conflicted individual, his training was limited, his attitude was off, he had lost his hunger and perhaps his fighting heart already, and he got soundly beat. They are not excuses, becasue everyone knows how good Barrera was, but if Naz had been at the top of his game like he was against Johnson for example, a very tough opponent, then I think the result of the Berrara fight might have been a lot closer, or different altogether. Can't help look at Naz's carrer and think "what if...".
I hate the way people say Naz had a great chin/granite chin/iron chin etc, when really there is no evidence to support his chin is any better than decent, or at best good. But to say "Glass Jawed" is just stupid. He was never stopped, so what is the evidence for saying that??
Naz was one of my favorites. Unorthodox style of fighting, fun to watch. One loss to Barrera is the only thing most people remember about him. But, he was more than that. This article is on point. Talented, cocky sob. I wish he was still around doing his thing. Would of definitely won more titles if it wasn't for his bad boy ways.
He was also not at his peak when he fought Barrera is what people forget and he lost on points. What i mean is he had lost focus and wasnt the same fighter he was under Brendan Ingle, he'd beat Barrera for me if he had been, and Morales and Pacman and JMM. Just imo, very underrated.
