There was a documentary about his preparation for the Barrera fight, he just hung about with his brother going shopping and crap, spent a lot of time talking shite about allah and how allah was going to win the fight for him or something and basically did **** all in the gym and didnt seem to regard Barrera as a threat. And he still didnt get knocked down or out. I dont really know why some people wouldnt even consider the thought that a prime, motivated Naz would have had a good shot against Barrera. Not saying he would definitely have won because you cant but hed have had a good chance.
Totally agree mate, when he was in his prime,or sorry before he stopped training properly,he had waay more than just power
Ive said it before but Naz pretty much single handidly brought the featherweight division into the public eye....bringing it glitz, glamour, and more importantly the money that the fighters deserved. So regardless of what anyone thinks of him, he was VERY GOOD for boxing, and we need more characters like him in the game
Great boxer, but i think towards the end his faith was beginning to conflict with his boxing, a view i'm sure some would agree with.
Yeah doc is pretty shite because it showed a tired and lazy Naz getting ready for a fight he couldn't be bothered for. He already had over $30 million in the bank... 15million (gbp) and didn't really need it. To be honest in their primes I think Naz would have beaten Barrera comfortably, but the Naz we saw was heavy, slow, bad timing and generally flat footed... a shame people seem to remember his as an over rated fighter who lost to Barrera...
I find it amazing that hardly anyone has seen the Kelly fight for example but say naz was over rated... unless you have seen 10-15 of his fights, you can't even begin to understand the power, the variety, the psychological game and the domination he had in the ring... he used to play with World Champions like they were amateurs. Mccollough, Kelly, Ingle, Medima and Varquez are big names he beat in his day.
Exactly, you get this poorly informed 'fans' making snap judgements about Naz based on one fight, which is probablly the only fight they ever saw of his. Naz cleaned out the featherweight division, beat every belt holder and looked ****ing awsome doing it. Not only did he beat the best guys in the division, he schooled them, and then knocked them the **** out, on most occasions. :bbb
I think a lot of his annoying brashness and his fighting heart were honed from growing up as an asian/yemeni kid on the streets of Bradford,a defensive barrier Great power, enjoyable fighter, utter twat....
Naz was a great fighter but lost all his discipline in his final years. His match with Kelly was awesome but it also exposed a vulnerable defense against top fighters.
You have to consider that Hamed wasn't a natural FW either. Pretty titchy for the weight. Bungu was a very good win.
