He was a success because he we so elusive, had awesome power, had a granite chin and had an aura of invincibilty about him at the time. He lost to Barrera on points for all the above reasons. Barrera boxed him sensibly, with enough power to put Hamed off and was not intimated by a fighter who was trying to KO him with every shot. He relied too much on his power in that fight. His ego got to him. Most fighters had lost before entering the ring, the mind games got to them. Leaving Brendan Ingle was the beginning of the end. Look at the Hamed Robinson fight for a indication of how good Hamed was.
This is what happens all the time on boxing forums - people take one instance then apply it as a general to suit their own agenda. Hamed was ridiculously off-balance at times in the Augie Sanchez fight and got chased around the ring. However, I remember specifically him getting decked by Daniel Alicea in a knockdown that had nothing whatsoever to do with balance. He was straight on and got hit with good shots and went down. I can't remember the other KD's in the Kelley fight, but I do recall clearly the 1st knockdown where Kelley floored him. Again, this one had nothing to do with balance, if you care to watch it again. He's banged with a good shot, and goes down. Now, every fighter can be KD'd. And to Hamed's credit, he got back up each time. However, in light of the comments on this forum (especially the last guy's laughable assertion that his chin was 'granite' ), I thought it was worthwhile to bring up actual incidents and not just general opinion.
Naz had a good chin and awesome ko power shame he wasnt close to his best when he fought MAB would pick Naz to beat him if he was
PACFAN84, I just looked up footage of the Alicea knock down and i won't blame his balance but he never looked to be on wobbly legs or any trouble after it, likewise throughout his career so I can't critisize his chin. I don't know if you're mistaken but the first Kelley knock down, Hamed is squared up and leaning back, genuine knock down but he wasn't in the best balanced position there was he. I'd say even guys with "granite" chins can still be knocked down.
Ignore Rico. He always comes into Hamed threads and throws out the 'glass jaw' silliness. He either genuinely believes it (and thus cannot distinguish between balance knockdowns and 'hurt' knockdowns) or he simply does it to annoy people. Either way, he's a moron. Hamed was never knocked out, and he was always up before the count of five, and never on Khan-esque jelly legs. He was (in almost every case) knocked down while crouching or swaying away with that odd style of his. That isn't a glass chin at all. If anything he had a good chin -- not granite, mind you, and not VERY good, but definitely good. I agree here, this one wasn't down to balance -- but it's also one of the very few times that ever happened to Hamed. It was three flush straight right hands that did it, I think. Even then he hopped up right back to his feet and began bouncing around the ring, showing absolutely no shakiness. Actually, the first one looked like it had a LOT to do with balance. Watch the fight again. If I recall correctly, this is what happened: 1) Hamed backs Kelley against the ropes. 2) Hamed throws a combination of three/four shots, while Kelley coils and covers up. 3) Kelley suddenly comes out of his defensive posture and moves into a punch. 4) Hamed sees this and reflexively leans back, his hands down, trying to avoid the incoming shot. 5) The shot catches him while he's leaning back, and it's more than enough to tip him to the canvas due to his current balance. 6) He hops right back up to his feet before the ref has counted to five.
I am mad that morales never got to fight him. I win over naz would have really boosted Morales' legacy even more.
the first kd in the kelley fight was totally due to balance naz was leaning back good post as for alicea i think it was due to naz standing too square on
