Prince Naseem -- what he said before fighting Barrera

When asked about how he would cope with losing if it ever happened to him as a Pro:

'There are guys who lose and they're a flop after that. They can't take it. Mentally they can't be very strong. If I ever lost, I'd just come straight back. I'd let nothing dishearten me...I walk through fear.'

(taken from The Shadows of Boxing Prince Naseem)

Just struck me as utterly ironic but also pretty sad. He could have been a hell of a lot more than he was -- what a complete waste of talent.

I'm a big Naz fan, but I have to admire the way Barrera boxed that night. Beautiful stuff.

Dude, Barrera got the job done and then some. Made Hamed look foolish on several occasions.

Maybe I'm a bit naive on the subject, but what is the fascination with Hamed on this site? In retrospect looking at his career, I just don't see what the big deal was. If we talked about all fighters that had a lot of ability, but pissed it away then he would not be at the top of the list by a long shot.

In the end what we have is a fighter that never beat anyone of note and lost the one time he stepped up and fought a very good fighter in Barrera. For gods sake Barrera had already been beaten TWICE by Junior Jones at this point!!!

Like I said- maybe I just don't get it, but IMO the guy was exposed as an overrated fraud and yet people still want to go on about the guy.

From the looks of that.. seems like Barrera fought a smart fight n took away alot of Naseems advantages

but then again i havent seen the whole fight and that video seemed alot in Barrera's favour

Funny I never heard him say that, but then again his words were awfully muffled when Barerra stuffed his face into the corner turnbuckle.

Barrera put on a boxing clinic that night and clearly dominated Hamed. The turnbuckle thing was more a middle finger to Hamed, a final humiliation by Barerra as he was schooling him.

That was due to balance issues more than anything else. When you sway away from punches with your hands down, even the slightest prod will send you to the floor -- he just kept getting caught doing that. He didn't really look hurt at all.

Most likely because his antics have overshadowed his boxing ability -- the charisma/crazy ring entrances/flashy style and knockouts make him a very entertaining fighter, if nothing else.

The thing with hamed is that he is very sloppy...just watch the video yes he could possibly be the hardest punching featherweight of all time..thats why he got away with it against b- fighters.

Now faced with a good B level fighter that Kelley was...he was there to be had...ok ok he slipped 3 times lol..but Kelley couldnt finish..thats why he is B level and Kelley's career prove to be B level at best.

Against a great fighter like MAB ..his sloppiness was exploited

I never said he slipped, he definitely got hit, I just pointed out that they were, in a sense, 'flash' knockdowns due to stemming from bad balance rather than hurting/flush shots. And to be fair, at bantam he was actually quite crisp. It was only as he started to believe too heavily in the hype of his own power that he got gradually more and more sloppy, leaving his arms extended too long and going for one big punch. He would literally jump into punches way too much, and when he missed it looked like he would go flying right out of the ring. Barrera picked him apart with excellent clinical boxing on the back foot and, credit to him, never tried to go for a slug fest like Kelley. Barrera did everything right and Naseem did everything wrong. I'm not sure if Naseem would have won if he was at his best, but I DO know he would have caused Barrera a lot more trouble.

I've seen the fight many times. Scorecards were actually a little generous to Hamed. Barrera schooled him.

I think theres a lot of hate on Hamed because he wasn't as good as everyone claimed.
