Lol you don't sit there and insult a former world champion when you haven't fought a half decent fighter Jones was nothing special but he had some good wins and took a beating of a great fighter and didn't quit
I understand your point. The thing is he would have to be matched that low, he wouldn't be picked up by or noticed by anyone that would take him on promoter wise. The attitudes right to make waves, its just that he cant properly get off the ground talent wise. If the promoters don't want him here, Americas Promoters definitely wont want him over there, hence the Budapest joke !
Wouldn't it have been nice to hear a story that backstage or off camera Jones put him straight, horizontal straight that is lol
Hungary population is under 10 Million, but they have near 50 boxers who either won Olympic Medals or World Titles. Hungarian journeymen are just more willing to accept mismatches, in effect competing with local journeymen.
He really is a great dude. Funny thing is, AM boxing is more of a sport and pro boxing is more of a fight, but the way Berto fought in the AM's screamed of Nigel Benn. Nationally and internationally he would get buzzed but would stage a furious comeback and end up stopping his opponent. I don't know what his socioeconomic situation was like growing up, but he signed a big promotional deal pretty much right when he turned pro and from that point forward fought totally different. If he really applied himself in the pro ranks I think he'd be going down as a legend. Regardless, doesn't matter though, I'm glad he's made more than enough to live comfortably the rest of his life, he's a genuinely great guy.
Very true. It's saddening to see how many brave Hungarians get wasted on undercards in the UK or in Germany as cannon fodder to prop up the records of 'local talent'.
The average income is over in the UK is more than triple that of Hungary & even more in Germany, so the Hungarian journeymen usually get 4x of what they get back home
