This isn't a knock on any particular poster but i just wanted to get this off my chest...

Back in late 06 and early 07, there were only a few threads regarding Marquez/Izzy and those threads were literally empty.. Some knowledgable posters and myself would tell everyone that this was going to be a classic fight yet most didnt buy it... They would rather talk about Adamek/ dawson.....lol

I sometimes wonder how many true boxing fans there are in this forum..

    What do u guys think?

Not very man fans of the sport, but tons of fans of a specific fighter is more the case.

If I remember right, there was a LOT of anticipation about Marquez moving up. Most people didn't realize how tough Vazquez was though, including myself. I was looking at it as a stepping stone for RM eventually moving up to FW and getting into the mix there.

I agree my friend won 20$ off me in the rematch but by the third fight i knew better. Vasquez is a tough SOB.

Goes to show you the difference 1 division can make sometimes too.

what cracks me up is how many flag / ethnicity waving fans don't even know their own boxers until they are well on their way into the mainstream, and then, they defend them with an intense bias, these same boxers they didn't even know existed until the real fans brought them to their attention.

I'm sorry I didn't get involved in the discussion, but I hadn't joined yet and frankly I didn't even realise this place existed back then.

Rafael Marquez is one of my favourite fighters......I would have contributed to the pre-fight threads if I had been a member.

Jhonny Gonzalez moved up and fought Vazquez. He out boxed him out classes him and dropped him twice before Vazquez made a great comeback. Looking at that fight you would fear for his safey vs Marquez but thats boxing now isn't it???

Oh and I didnt think it was going to be that great of a fight either. Both were big punchers but both were very selective with there punches I figured it would be a chess match of who could catch who first with a each fighter going down atleast once. Didn't expect the brawl that it turned out to be and honestly didnt think it was possible for either fighter to take that many punches from the other.

I'm a huge fan of Marquez, and I thought he would have Vasquez out within three rounds.

Can't remember what others thought about it but I remember that I discussed it a lot and recommended Marquez' fights with Silence Mabuza quite a lot and also Vasquez' fights with Larrios.

    Good old days.
