Prior to the first Marquez/Vazquez fight, only a very few posters talked about it...

I was one of the guys who joined in on the Izzy - Marquez discussions early. :hi:

In fact, I had the fight in mind even before anyone was talking about it. I just figured that if Rafa moved up, with these two fighters' styles the action would be tremendous. Ooohhh how right I was. :smoke

 

rafa marquez was the #4 or 5 p4p fighter that time and some have him as high as #3 just after floyd and pac. he is the favorite back then even though he is the one going-up in weight. after the first fight, some people thought vazquez was not in in rafa's class.

 

Not to mention as great as Izzy and Rafa are, there was a much more hyped and anticipated card on HBO that night (Cotto vs Urkal and Miranda vs Green).

All of the hype fell on how amazing Green vs Miranda was supposed to be.

 

I think Rafael may still be starving himself to make weight and should maybe let it go and move on up. He looks NOTHING like his normal self when he's at fighting weight, kinda like Erik Morales. His cheeks are sunken, skin all ashy... I haven't heard any rumors about trouble with the weight, that's just what it looks like to me.
