I was pleasantly surprised by that wee tournament, I thoroughly enjoyed it but I was sad also because Ian Millarve pulled out. Some cracking toe to toe stuff, plenty of drama, & me & my pal were just remarking on how Rogan looked like Eamonn Magee, & we laughed when we seen who was in his corner, none other than the man himself Eamonn Magee The final was tremendous, a great end to the night with both Rogan & Dolan going flat out at each other, some of the best drama I have ever seen in a boxing ring. Well done to Rogan, he was the stand out fighter & deserved his paycheque.
I must admit though, the only fight thleft a bit of a sour taste in the mouth was the Ferguson-Bessey fight. Apart from the KD in the first, I thought Billy Bessey clearly won the next two rounds & the fight should have been declared a draw. Which begs the question, what would have happened if any of the fights were scored a draw? Anyone know?
Really enjoyed the tourney last night. No future world champs, but well matched fighters made for some entertaining scraps. Its a good idea too. With boxing struggling to attract casual audiences, short fights and the tourney structure give regular punters someone to root for without getting bored. For the winner its a good boost to their profile, a wad of cash and 3 more ticks in the win column too. Hope to see more!
Fantastic nights boxing. I really enjoyed the tournament and we got a very worthy winner in Rogan. He brought alot of heart to the fights that pulled him through in the end after that nasty cut, he seemed a great fellow too hopefully we will see abit more from him in the future. Dolan was in a different class to the rest of the fighters and I am sure he would have won if over 12 rounds. I thinkn he will comeback well from this experience, this loss was not a bad one to take. He should think of moving to cruiser weight though, I can not see him being big enough to make an impression even at European level with his size. Any thoughts on him at cruiser? The rest of the guys in the bill were not great but I can imagine it is hard to get a good level of competition for this kind of thing. The Dolan loss will put managers with good prospects off in the future but if the guys brought in put on fights like the heavy's did last night then I really do not mind. They all gave it everything they had which made for completely different style fights than that we are used to. I had Darren Ferguson and Billy Bessy a draw but with the knock down Ferguson was the only one that could have pulled out a win.
Unknown Foreigners don't sell tickets or even attract people to watch on tv(outside of those that watch friday fight night anyway ).
I was wondering who chose the 8 'cos the subs looked in better condition than most of the first round losers. In fact one of subs was said to have koed the guy Rogan beat in the first round. Seemed mad to have better guys on the bench. Even Benitez would've raised his eyebrows at that
Chisora is a Warren fighter so that's probably why he was a replacement , Ingleby has by far the worst record of the lot and although he has beaten Ibbs , he had lost to Ibbs before that .
Great entertainment, thought the 2 subs would have fought each other before the final in order to give the other 2 a rest
I had him as a second favorite before the night began but damm once he started talking and having a laugh I wanted him to win, great bloke who deserved the win. I know it is early but has any one got any info if Matchroom are going to do another prizefighter.
definitely. the standard was pretty poor but i guess thats a reflection on the hw division in general. this would have been much better if millarvie and chisora had been in the 8. i'm glad rogan won though...he seemed to be more up for it than the rest. dolan looks like hes got skills, but his style is not suited for 3 rounders where you seem to be able to do better if you are a mauler.
Barry Hearn is a genius.... The whole idea was to create an oppertunity for the public to get to know the fighter, to make people care.... something tht hasn't been done for a long time..... Can anyone say they won't be interested to see where Rogan and co go from here? They all acted tremendously bravely and they are a credit to themselves. You can critisise Ibbs but he had the balls to get in there and put it on the line. Awesome.
