The wife really enjoyed the programme. She usually loses interest in fights between fighters she does not know or like :hey . I will be having a look out for all the lads, having them on Soccer Am and things was good. Alex Ibbs will be a good fighter when he gets through puberty.
dunky - i think if it had been a draw it would of gone to who had scored the most knock downs going through. would make sense.
i was pleasantly surprised by the action, especially after seeing the condition some of the guys were in.the action was non stop, real whole hearted stuff.i wanted davie dolan to win being from my home town, but you've got to hand it to rogan he was a worthy winner of the tournament and a great character as well.i agree with with an earlier poster i think dolan will have to consider fighting at cruiserweight. he's a really talented fighter but i don't think he's big enough or powerful enough to cut it at heavyweight.
I said he should consider Cruiser Weight. How tall is the kid and what does he usually come in at weight wise? He looks a small heavy so a drop to Cruiser could be good for him. I could see him making a decent career for himself there.
Good night's entertainment.I liked Rogan's attitude he had a big heart and a lot of hunger out of all the fighters he wanted it the most.Bit hard to judge in a 3 rounder I cant see how he could keep that up for 12 rounds.Horses for courses as they say he had the right tactics for a mini bout just get in the ring and scrap. If Hearn gets behind him he could start challenging for domestic belts he is as good if not better than some of the crap we have at HW at the moment.
he's 6'2" comes in at about 15 and a half.they seem determined however to keep him at heavy seeing his speed as the key.however as you go up in class against the real big guys, a punch, strength and durability still need to be in the equation.
Big well done to all the fighters who took part in this tournament & congratulations to Barry Hearn for putting on such a hotly contested event.
He seem's perfect for the cruiser division. Maybe the loss will make them re evaluate where his career should go interms of division. I doubt he can make an impression at heavy.
Why the **** should it just revolve Britain? Hearn said he wanted to revive the heavyweight division.
btw do these fights actually go on the fighters records? i thought a fight had to be at least 4 rounds to count...?
They've put them on boxrec. Enjoyed the night's fighting as well. Will be interested in seeing what Rogan does next; he's a real character.
Revolve? :huh Assuming you meant involve the this was the case because it was a british competition..... I don't recall Hearn at any stage insisting this would have reprecussions all over the world.
Did anyone else go to this on Friday btw? I went with a few mates and it was a cracking night out. Hats off to Hearn for trying something a bit different and also for putting the prizes at the level they were to make sure all eight fighters went for it for virtually every minute of every round. Loads of credit too for the fighters involved for putting on such a great show. It was great having Billy Bessey on first as he'd brought a big group of fans with him and that got the atmosphere going from the start. It also helped that he and Ferguson threw non-stop punches for the first round. Big Enzo was ringside cheering on Morgan and was absolutely screaming at the top of his lungs throughout the Dolan fight. Morgan got really unlucky actually and if the Bell hadn't gone straight after he landed a huge punch on Dolan he would have won the fight. Credit as well to Dolan for entering a tournament that didn't really suit his strengths. I don't think it will have done his rep any harm although he was considerably smaller than all of the other fighters and I can't see him winning anything other than points victories as a heavy. Not sure how many fans that would leave him with even if he could make it to European or World level. There were eight of us and we had tenners in each which gave it a bit of extra spice (I got Kenna which I thought was decent until he got stopped in the first round :-( ) but we were all agreed at the end that it was as good a night of boxing as we'd been to, and comfortably the best in terms of excitement. All but one of the group had watched boxing plenty of times before and some had watched multiple fights in the US. Unlike a normal bill the action was non-stop from when it started at 9ish to when it finished just after midnight with no real mismatches (Ibbs excepted) and you always knew what was on next with each fight having its own significance. I'd definitely go to the next Prizefighter event and Hearn was talking about doing it for MW, WW and FW, although I think it suits the Heavyweight division perfectly. Congrats again to Barry Hearn and all involved and as a foot note I found the staff at Matchroom very helpful when getting tickets. £30 each, received next day by recorded delivery and with no booking fee.
