Buckland can now afford a smile after tonight's success

    By Shaun Brown

A dark cloud was cast over boxing following last weekend’s heavyweight title bout between messrs Haye and Harrison. And whenever our sport suffers a depressing and embarassing setback like it did a week ago the doom and gloom merchants are never far away.
But fear not ye pessimists. Whilst ‘that fight’ was a non-event, eight little men took centre stage tonight at the York Hall in Bethnall Green to lighten up the boxing with some good old fashioned blood, guts and war.
In its 15th event, the Prizefighter series thrust itself back into the spotlight to remind us all that not only is the format still weaving its magic but all is not lost in boxing. Eight boxers from all over Great Britain endeavoured to give the fans in attendance and the viewers at home on Sky television a real treat. And they certainly didn’t disappoint.

The public cares little about the smaller guys though.

I bet the viewing figures, also money figures, between this event and the Harrison vs Haye fight are not even remotely comparable.

Also, if PF is doing 'damage control', it's only repairing the damage it's done to the game itself, the last PF was absolutely horrendous.

You're right they are not comparable. And there have been some Prizefighter events that have stunk the joint out. But tonight's was thoroughly enjoyable and for a short while made people forget about the Haye fight.
