Prizefighter format needs to be embraced on a higher level

I have no interest in Prizefighter. I think it's devaluing the sport with how poor the participants are.

 

I don't think a shortened format proposal is the way forward. Just a proposal for the top 6 ranked fighters to meet in a tourney style to eliminate each other on their way to securing top dog spot and then a chance maybe at a euro or a good standing in wotlrld rankings.
I know people are young to say it won't work for a ton of reasons, but boxing owes it to the fighters and the fan to match as competitively as possible where there is a genuine goal or purpose to the fight rather than it being a "tune up" etc

 

Avid, isn't that how belt org rankings are meant to work?

Not saying to have a go, it's just that the business has overtaken the sport. Could you imagine during the World Cup if Spain suddenly refused to play Brazil because they weren't happy with the purse split?

We need a single governing body that unites all the orgs and the licensors.

 

I'd like the board to issue rankings too..... as it is too many voluntary British title defences are between the champion (obviously) and an opponent in the lower half of a consensus top 10 - not really good enough for me.

 

I obviously Agree wholeheartedly with the idea of a single body, but since that doesn't look likely to happen, IMO the next best thing is to let the top digs fight it out and those below to fight for a higher ranking. I mean you look at Paul smith. Ok he fought degale last, but, and I am speaking as most you know as a Paul smith fan, was Dodson a legit challenger? Certainly it sold well, but realistically we should have smith, groves, Anderson, degale, David fighting it out.
Rankings should be seriously considered if a tourney cannot be devised. By rights voluntaries are crap. In any division fight the best to be the best and work your way up if needs be. We have no champion who can say he beat 4-5 of the best domestically, and this is also a serious hamstring if some if our guys move to euro/works level. Look at macklin. He is not shining at euro and IMO lost his last fight. Lack of competition is killing things domestically. I don't like Tyson fury but at least the guy is getting out there and fighting non Brit opposition and learning

 

We need to evolve but Prizefighter isn't the way forward. It's like putting a F1 car around a circuit twice. It doesn't work. These are highly tuned, quality fighters, they deserve better than a 3 round mash up where they don't get a chance to think, adapt, and one knockdown more or less ****s them.

We need to put on better fights, consistently, thats the bottom line. Not change the format of the fights.

 

PF has had its time. Time to scrap it.

 

I think pf can have its uses. It might not be top boys all if the time, but it's a great chance of a pay day for someone who wouldn't normally have the chance of earning 30k, and if it is going to be a reg fixture, why not give the winner a shot at taking for example someones #5 ranking. I mean if you win prizefighter you have proven something. Gavin Rees won it let's not forget. Now he ain't exactly a poor quality domestic fighter

 

Why crash and burn? Pf should be considered relevant, but its 3 round format shouldn't be used to establish a true champion in a weight class. The theory it uses to fund out who the top guy is out if a group of guys is great. Just needs to be adapted for championship distances and championship fights. The great thing is it would put fighters in their place and establish a proper pecking order
