How does that go on the boxers' records? :think

The official judges arrived at a majority draw. That ought to be reflected on the records, should it not? They aren't going to stick Thomas with a loss because one man scored against him completely independent of the judges' panel?

So it's a "loss" as far as the tournament is concerned, with Agyei Dua advancing and Thomas eliminated - but in reality it's still a draw. Right?

Nick Quigley vs. Steve Harkin

 

Round 1

Quigley is sidestepping the jab of Harkin and catapulting hooks from a low-hand stance. Sharp hits from Quigley as he stays on the leftward bent, not staying too far outside but making Harkin miss as he dips down.

10-9 Quigley

 

Round 2

Quigley is breathing a bit through his mouth but still controlling the range and pace well. Harkin flops in throwing overhands and pushes Quigley into the ropes but is eating some very nicely turned over hooks with every rush in. Quigley puts some uppercuts together with his hooks but seems unable to break an egg (as is Harkin). Nice left hook to the body by Quigley, and he tries to double it up to the chin but mistimes. Quigley flurries a bit over the small of Harkin's back.

Round 3

Quigley pushes on, cat-scratching with his jab as he pushes Harkin briefly back to the ropes. Quigley is outworking Harkin but not hurting him. Hooks up top and uppercuts to the body as Quigley leans in. Harkin is shoveling both arms at Quigley from every angle imaginable, a bit slow and quite inaccurate but at least making it physical on the inside and making some incidental contact. Quigley is falling in and flopping onto Harkin's chest after short pound-down flurries. Both men slap each other as they drift to the ropes, and Quigley goes down. Slip.

Robert Lloyd Taylor and to a lesser extent Kris Agyei Dua really seem to be the best in class tonight.


I don't expect Vaughan or the winner of this one will have enough - both because of the relative lack of skill and because they'll be knackered.
