Semifinal 2: John Watson vs. Adil Anwar

 

Round 1

Anwar jabs and jumps back, leaning over. Watson tries to fix his straighter jab on Anwar's moving chin. 1-2 to the body by Watson. Anwar keeps moving and pushing his jab out, and ties Watson up. Soft jabs by Anwar. Watson gets in close trying to drill down to the body and Anwar lands a slapping hook to the face in the ensuing exchange. Another hook by Anwar leaping in, and followed by a right to the chin. Uppercut by Watson! Clinch. Some left forearm bashes to the face by Anwar (maybe they were intended to be hooks, but thrown too close to make contact on the knuckles). Flashy combo jumping by Anwar! Watson got rocked!!

It will be Anwar vs. Nurse after all.

Round 2

Anwar circles left and tosses jabs up into Watson's face. Watson tries to time him and land his own jab, but keeps missing just wide of Anwar's face as the young Leeds man ghosts to his left. The Liverpudlian is throwing wide hooks in counter to the diving rights of Anwar. Good sudden short counter by Watson, and Anwar is wobbled off balance for a moment! Right hand by Watson. Anwar dances out and starts to paw out with his jab. Clinch. Slaps to the hips by Watson while getting muscled back toward the ropes. Anwar flurries in the air, and then ducks back as Watson tries to jab through at him. Clinch. Watson taps the body. Anwar submerges into another clinch. Anwar runs around the ring. Wild hooking swings by Anwar from outside. Clinch.

20-18 Anwar, but better round for Watson

 

Johnny Nelson says Watson was "tailor made for Anwar".

These celebrity pundits sure do love their hyperbole, don't they? :-(

Between that and Woodhall saying Nurse was "dominating" Mutley...

 

Round 3

Anwar drops in right hands from afar, darting in and out and using lots of energy to bounce around the ring. Watson looks to time him darting in with a right hand, but can't catch him cleanly as Anwar flurries through his entries. Clinch. Both bang the body. FLUSH left by Anwar jumping inside! Clinch. Watson is getting shaken up by some of these surprise shellings. More clinching.

30-27 Anwar
