Round 1

Thompson is putting in jabs and combos aggressively as Hunt backpedals and turns his arms out. Thompson is selecting his shots nicely, hooking and crossing off the jab and slipping Hunt's counter left pokes. Hunt's defense upstairs is a bit leaky despite him remaining largely negative and not looking to counter much or lead at all. Thompson gets a bit over-zealous and misses a few hooks but is rocking Hunt onto his heels a few times with each assault.

Round 2

Thompson is dropping his head out of the path of Hunt's jab and banging away with head shots. Hunt circles right, trying to make Thompson miss and flicking out a few left jabs. Thompson lunges with lead hooks and looping rights, Hunt ducking and tilting aside while backpedaling. High volume by Thompson, overwhelming Hunt and throwing more than he can see or block. Hunt grabs and wrestles Thompson by the ropes. Flush jab by Thompson, dropping a right to the body. Thompson is occasionally changing up his lead foot while advancing tossing jabs and body shots as a southpaw. Hunt keeps running. Thompson tries to corner him on the ropes and strings together several hooks to the body. Hunt ties him up and pushes down on the back of his neck with a forearm.

Round 3

Thompson is cracking away with the overhand right. Hunt tries to lean in and meet him with a mirrored shot. HEADS CLASH HARD. Hunt is cut badly, and both are stunned. Thompson shakes the cobwebs and comes swarming in with abandon, throwing massive combos. Hunt desperately blasts away, and Thompson is eating flush power counters! He whips Hunt's head around with some hooks, forcing his way inside by sheer will! The cut is flowing freely. The ref pauses the action, and stops it.

Thompson's arm is raised.

So, technical decision scored by the ref?

It certainly wasn't a stoppage, as the cut was clearly from the butt.

 

Hopefully that bump doesn't affect Thompson in the semis. He did seem to use up a lot of energy but doesn't seem to be totally sapped.

We'll see how fresh his opponent is on the other side of the bracket after their QF.

Yeah. He isn't even breathing heavily in his interview.

He says he'll change it up a bit in the next stage, probably meaning he'll scale back the aggression a bit to conserve for the finals.

Outright? Why them instead of Thompson?
