ABA i take it? pretty stupid decision imo, the pro/am shows are a good thing, they inspire the amateurs to turn pro some day and its good for them to see pros fighting live. The only downside that i can see is that the promoter may be using the amateurs to get off paying a full card of pros which is a trick some guys do, they fill the card with amateurs they dont have to pay and then have 2 pro fights on the card. This may be why they arent allowing pro/am shows anymore
AIBA have made the ruling ,I'm at a loss why Boxing fans like to see amateur boxing before the pro fights, they see it as an Entree to the bigger fights.
Not sure what to think but it's pretty bold decision. Most people go to pro am shows to watch their mates have a go in the amateurs then see the local pro's go to work to improve their position up the ranks. Two different style of fight makes for a good night out. Country towns probably don't have enough pro's to fill a big card.
It appears what I've been told is incorrect, according to NSW Authority insert all the w.dsr.nsw.gov.au/aboutus/industry_combat_permits.asp and then C&P Then again, no pro-am shows listed beyond June 29
ive always said Dennis Magnay is a spastic. One of the most corrupt officals ive ever had to deal with. Who is the PCYC CEO atm?
wat ever the story it is hurting aussie boxing, in the last decade I have seen some great fighters (ABL) who have given up the sport because they have goten to finals (with ease) and been ripped f and this has happened at commonwealth games trials or facing aba top opposition. there has been a few good pro ABL fighters ben mcculloch,, dom vea, anthoney mcraken and Daniel ammann have all come in last decade but our amateur system is really bad
derp, ive said this for yrs. There is a reason we have never won gold and its not because we have sht boxers, its because we have sht politics involved with the amateurs. It stinks and wont change anytime soon.
our best chance at any medal in boxing would be jai opetaia kid has talent to burn and still young and started his boxing career in the ABL before switching to ABA
I think i seen him fight a while back, was the youngest on the team at the time, he looks like he is from NZ?
yeah, but he is 100% aussie with somoan parents, he is our next kali Meehan providing, kali's son willis turns his back on footy I cant see it happining
He is Tap's boy. Will be a monster when he matures. Olympic experience at his age in unheard of... he will go places. Originally from west syd, now resides on the central coast..
I was at a pro-am show on friday night. Its a long way off happening, pro-ams arent going anywhere while theres cash in it for the officials in boxingnsw who answer to noone. The pcyc are considering going to the league due to their disputes with boxingnsw... Boxingnsw is a cash grab for these guys. Its not monitored by anyone but themselves and they can do whatever they like. If youre in with them, they look after you, if youre not, forget it. Its unfortunate, because it shouldnt be political and personality based. I know a few promoters who have left them and gone to the league because of this. But, if you want your fighters to fight for state titles and progress to the games etc, you have to be with them. I personally havent had any issues, but thats because i pay top dollar for all my sanctioning fees, and do everything by the book, and prefer it this way as it keeps it professional and above board. I know of the whinging of other promoters, who get discounts on sanctioning and dont pay their full amount for officials, but at the end of the day, respect is lost for them. So from what i can see its not what you know, its who you know with these blokes...
do the ABA still have a policy where u cant switch from ABL to ABA, even if you start in the ABA than have a fight in the ABL your not welcome back ? I know this was a policy of Arthur tunstall
